Winegard RZ-6000 Antenna flew away: Repair needed

The top section of my Antenna grew wings and flew away. I need to install a new antenna. I will have to do the following: Any hints appreciated.

1. Remove self-leveling dicor
2. Remove Eternabond
3. Remove Antenna base
4. Remove Antenna controls interior
5. Prepare roof for Dicor and Eternabond
6. Install the new antenna.

Winegard Tech stated that the top must have been hit or twisted off, no other explanation. Except, it is located behind the AC and if something hit the antenna it would have to have hit the AC too.

Had the same thing happen to me. You do not need to remove the base. Check out the below link.

If you have any questions-let me know.

Thanks for the link!

Thank you. That thread looks pretty good. My only concern is that my base is different and if you look inside there is a threaded round "nut" that the antenna base might have to be screwed into. If so, I see no way of holding the "nut" in place. Antenna should arrive this week.

Travelingjw,
Springhook's info provide me a great starting point and way to proceed when I did
mine. Here is a basic steps I did....
1. Removed new antenna from its base
2. Removed directions/turning handled from inside trailer
3. Removed the Nut holding the old antenna shaft in place
4. Located coax cable to inspect damage. It was visible in the opening when I
removed the handle. In my case the coax was fine...just had to remove the small
connecting wire left behind by the old antenna. If not you will have to run a new
coax down to where the TV/SAT connection is.
5. Connected the new antenna wire to the coax
6. Placed the new antenna onto the base of the old antenna
7. Secured the plastic nut onto the shaft of the new antenna
8. Reinstall the handle....follow the instructions for proper placement/direction of
antenna when installing the handle.

Good Luck

Thank you, I really appreciate the detail. I am going to photo my steps as it appears this is not just a one off issue. When I called Winegard they said they had heard of the issue but didn't have many reports.

Travelingjw.
Well I contacted them and they never replied to me about it. I just chalked it up to poor customer service or not wanting to acknowledge they have a problem.

New antenna arrived today and of course the base is different. So I guess that tomorrow, in 83 degree sun I will be starting this project. Thanks again to all who answered questions.

Steps to repair 2 of 2

Steps to complete 2 of 2
Photos:
1. Tools Used
2. Completed installation
Notes: 2 of my photos ended up as video's so I could not upload them.

Removing Dicor: I used a plastic autobody repair tool for removing door panels etc.

The job took about 3 hours from start to finish. When I cut the plastic attachment to length I did it on my table saw for a straight edge

It says to use a non-hardening seal underneath the base. I used some Dicor to seal the roof damage and then just laid Dicor all around the base.

I always use the pads (grey flat pieces) when working on the roof for both protection from dropping things and comfort. It was 85 degrees so I wanted to make sure that nothing ended up piercing the roof due to the heat.

Looks like a real good install. Then only thing I would have done different is use Eternabond tape around the base.
