X17Z water heater

Hey guys, so I'm camping the 3rd time this year and so far so good other then couple little hick ups with the trailer. The door seems to be little sticky. Having a 3 month old kiddo sleeping in the trailer don't really want to be slamming the door. The fridge door decorative panel (thin piece of plywood) is popping out ( door still closes properly). The iRV connection is finicky. My biggest concern is the water heater. This is the 2nd time it didn't work properly. I parked the camper, hook up power, then hook up water. Wait till it's filled so I opened the taps to let any air out. Turn the switch on. Then wait. So it's been a full day and still no hot water. I turned it of and on multiple times and finally I have water. Anyone knows what's going on?

Are your HWH by-pass valves set properly? Could be a loose wire connection at the heater element.

Does it act the same when you use LP?

I haven't uses LP yet since I always go to an electrical site. By-pass valve is closed hot and cold opened. Followed the instructions I got from the dealership. I was thinking it could be something with the connections too

..... Just thinking, check the HWH breaker in the trailer breaker/fuse panel, it could be compromised in some way.

I had a 2011 X17z and had to manually light the pilot light for the furnace. does yours have auto-pilot? possible blown fuze? propane valve open?

When you travel, do you shut off the propane on the tanks? It's possible that there's some air in the line to the water heater and it's taking a few times to purge the line. Once you get the initial hot water, does it continue to operate?

You should be able to hear the water heater kick in, they're usually audible.

I would check your connections at the hot water heater. You should hear a click sound when it comes on if your near it. Have someone turn it on while you have the door open if it comes on you will know it. If not then turn off and check and clean all electrical connections. I bet that is what it is.

I only use the propane for the furnace and cooking. So I only turn it in when I arrive to the site and shut it off when leaving. HWH runs on both but I only turn the electric switch on. I will definitely send the wife out with the kids out so I can hear the click. Thanks

will do. I'm going to take it in to the dealership since it's a brand new camper so I have warranty. I don't want to screw around with anything to void any warranty. But will definitely post back what the outcome was.

I had the same problem and it was the circuit board. Jayco dealer mailed me one and I returned the defective unit. Plenty of hot water now.

It's times like this that a VOM can come in handy. It could help you rule some things out (manual switch faulty, power to the control board). Before I have something repaired I like to poke around to see if I can figure out what's broke and what's not broke. If I can figure out what is broke then I'll figure out if it's easier to fix it myself (which I'd rather do anyway).
