Its a helpful site which will give people an good idea of what to expect. Yet remember, it is still a weather alert forecasting site. Just last week this site showed a NWS alert for a mountain pass area just across the inlet, for winter storm warning and heavy snow accumulation and extended the area into Anchorage. Well, Turnagain Pass got the for forecasted heavy storm and deep snow, but Anchorage got nothing. Just like regular news weather, it is subject to being wrong. Weather forecasting is a job field I wish I would have gone into. It's the only job I know where a person can go to work and get everything wrong most of the time and still have a job.
I have learned over the years to go out prepared for the absolute worse. I don't care if it is the middle of summer and 75 degrees with clear sky's and nothing but sunshine forecast. I still go out with full cold weather gear. Same thing goes for off road prep. I always carry what I learned to call "pioneer gear", equipment needed to get the truck and RV unstuck from mud, sand, and snow. That equipment goes in the truck even if we are camping in a paved campground.
