RV Inventory

All,

There is a constant chatter about low inventories on all sorts of RVs. Excuses range from COVID to space aliens.

I just ran I-35 from central Texas to Duluth and back, 16-27 Sep. 2021.

We passed 20-30-40 RV dealerships packed to 80-100% capacity.

Low inventory, as an excuse for some dealerships to NOT offer discounts, is not true. They appear to be consolidating with the large dealers.

How many of those units are already sold?????? The dealer near me has 61 units in stock....42 are marked SOLD...... Looks can be deceiving.

I purchased my 10yr old 31' BHDS in Jan of 2020. The current price for the same is up 35%. Maybe people are afraid of planes and hotels~

And then how many waiting on warranty work? Did the factory start shipping some units short on parts to be installed by the dealer?

Then, add customer units waiting (months?) for service and possibly units in storage.

I was referring to used units in upstate NY. Lots of inventory, high prices.

Like many areas of the country, RV dealers are clustered close together and near an intserstate. The dealers here have parked their units close tothe freeway so it looks like they have a lot of inventory. However, looking between the units, the lots look bare of any stock.

On the other hand, on I-90 between Spokane WA and Idaho, every RV dealer appears to have not sold anything and have plenty of stock.

I know, contradicting myself, but...

Camping World Indianapolis. 298 Travel trailers/toy haulers, 94 5th wheels, 6 popups and 41 Class A, B, and C's in stock. Their lot is bulging at the seams. These are new/used campers for sale. They have a separate lot for RV's in for repair.

My dealer told me this is exactly what they did, he used one camper to finish off several on his lot, and then is waiting for all the parts for the cannbalized one.

How long do you think people will wait to pick up a sold unit that is on the lot? If I buy one I'm not going to wait very long to pick it up, a few days at most.

Selling your unit

Don't think that this gives the dealers any incentive to purchase used 5th wheels! Contacted CW and Lazydays RV and both offered approximately $25K for my 2015 Pinnacle 38FBTS. List price for the Pinnacle in 2015 was $104K. I purchase for $57K in 2019. Retail is still around $55K.

I'm thinking that driving by a lot be it car, RV or whatever and coming to a conclusion about their sales, stock or anything is stretching it a long ways.
