12v Battery is hooked up weird but works fine. - Want to add a solar suitcase.

I would like to add a solar suitcase to my 2004 Jayco Greyhawk class C motorhome. And I don’t know how to properly hook up the solar panels with the solar clips because the battery looks like it is hooked up in a weird direction, not positive to positive and negative to negative. I hope that makes sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

From what I can see all those white tapes have a + on them and are connected to the positive terminal. Why do you think it is wrong?

It doesn’t look like anything is connected to the negative. I’m Battery ignorant though. So can I just put the clips on the negative and positive terminals like I was jumping a car?

Can you take a picture of both negative terminals, both the wing nut and post? All we can see is the negative wing nut.

If nothing is connected to the negative side it can't be working. It's hard to see the third wire. How is the white tape on it marked, anything?

Yes. I’ll have to go back to storage. If I remember correctly, nothing was on the negative but there was another wire attached to the back.

I’ll get it posted as soon as I can!

There would have to be a negative wire clamped on the back post, otherwise you'd have no 12 volt in the rig.

Yes. I’ll get better pics soon.

Would that change how I could charge this battery with a solar suitcase?

No, the positive clamp from the solar can go on either Positive point, and the same with the Negative. These deep cell batteries just have double posts on them, compared to a car battery, to give connection options.

Hopefully, the solar panel has a built in charge controller, so you don't overcharge the battery.

As long as your at it. I would fix up your wire terminals. On my phone it looks like there are broken wires too. All that corrosion is not good either. Both create electrical resistance, aka heat, which is power you cannot use.

That sure looks like a cable eyelet under the wing-nut on the negative.

Cable eyelet, like in ring terminal. We still can't see the complete negative terminals in the new pictures.

In your top picture, it looks like there is a white jacketed cable, but you don't see it in the other pictures. I suspect that cable is terminated under the negative terminal wing nut.

I think that is correct.

We have never had any issues with it. I was just initially hoping to charge this battery on solar but then got nervous due to how the wiring appeared. I’m a Newbie.
