2007 Duramax Oil change W/40k miles

I'm 53 years old and I've never paid for an oil change. I'm old school and I like to do things myself. This is my first Diesel. I have a few concerns. From the searching on here it looks like I should go with:

*Rotella T6 (14qrts)
*Mobil 1 oil filter
Concerns:
Is it OK to switch to Rotella (a full synthetic). Not sure what was used in the last 40K.

Is there anything different other than the volume of oil?

It's actually 14.6 quarts of oil so buy 15 just don't overfill.

Yes you can switch to full synthetic at 40,000 miles. The general rule is to wait until the engine has broken in. The witch craft to that is watch your mileage and when it levels out generally about 8 K miles you are free to make the change.

Think the OP is talking about a used one.

And a Moderator should close one of his threads unless the OP has a 2006 and a 2007.

Isn't the oil capacity of a Duramax with filter change 10 quarts? Being a 2007, it's either a LB7 engine or an LMM engine.
