2007 Seneca question

I bought my 2007 Seneca used and I have a question. Does anyone know if the chassis batteries charge while connected to shore power?
I ordered a Trik L Start, but now I'm not sure if I need it or not.
Thanks for any help!

Check in the space under the master closet, you should see the converter located there. Look up the model info for further info, but i suspect the converter takes care of all the charging need you may have.

Just reread your post, the coach batteries will charge from the converter, but the chassis batteries won't

I think you are correct. I found an owners manual online and it does not say it will charge chassis batteries while on shore power.
Now I need to install the Trik L Charge.

Before you spend the money send JAYCO your vin# and ask. My owner's manual didn't say that either, but our 08 was equipped to charge both house and chassis batteries on shore power.

They are supposed to. There is a device (somewhat like a solenoid) near the coach batteries that can send converter power to the chassis batteries if they need charged.

Thanks. There really is a lot more to these motorhomes than my previous TTs. I am thankful you guys and gals are there for guidance.

When I get a chance, I'll test the battery voltage without the genset running, then with the genset running. Higher voltage with genset running indicates it is charging.

OK. Results. On our 2006 Seneca 34SS, the chassis batteries are NOT charged when plugged into shore power or running on genset. The coach batteries ARE charged under those conditions. The one exception is when you depress the button to connect both banks of batteries together, in which case, they are all part of the same circuit. But that's not a long-term solution for charging. So, you either need to run the chassis engine, hook up a separate charger, or connect a solar array charging system specifically to the chassis batteries if you want to keep them topped off.

Oh, BTW, this doesn't mean a 2007 is identical to a 2006, but I would be surprised if there was a significant change.

You could add a Battery Isolation Manager that would provide charging to all batteries (both chassis and coach) from the engine alternator (when driving) or from shore power/generator when camping. Keeps them from draining each other, but allows charging of all. That is what the newer Senecas have, but it would work just as well on any unit with split battery systems. See attached information for more details.

Yes, occasionally they do. It is possible they even made a change in 2007. I'm actually surprised mine doesn't charge both battery circuits while on shore power. I thought it probably did until I actually connected a meter.

Good information to have. I haven't yet run into a problem, but this could help extend battery life and ensure starts after a long-ish time in mothballs or winter storage.

As I mentioned earlier I would contact JAYCO and ask. Otherwise you may have two chargers trying to do the same job.
