2008 Jayco Seneca DuraMax diesel

Hello All, The check engine light has just come on my dash panel. I am in Wisconsin and have to get back to Florida. The manual says to have an authorized dealer check it out immediately. Has anyone had this warning light come on?

We have had the Low Coolant light come on and the engine shutdown within 30 seconds. But in defense that was within 3 miles of changing the coolant at home and not letting the engine warm up enough for the two thermostats to open. We were able to pull into a bus stop and add the final gallon of coolant.

Anyhow, do you have a code reader with you such as a ScanGauge?

That will be my next question. Where is the plug in for the scanning tool? Thanks in advance.

Just under the dash above your right knee when seated. And even though the Duramax is diesel the plug is a standard OBD.

Most from another site have had exhaust issues. EGR or exhaust flap.

you can get the codes here:

code description

The code came up with "#6 cylinder glow plug circuitry" I think I will wait till I get back to Florida and do more investigating. Now I have another problem. No dash lights and running lights come on. I tapped the switch and they come on but go over some bumps and they go off. How do you remove that switch, it must be loose connections, I hope.
Thanks in advance

I recommend getting one of those elm327 OBDII readers -- can be had on eBay for <$10.

I use the Wifi version. Then use DashCmd with my iPhone.

Reads and resets most codes, can see live OBDII information.

It sounds like glow plug #6 may need to be replaced, and you may experience a rough running engine.

As you said yours is a 2008 I am pretty sure it is out of warranty. Glow plug replacement is a 1 to 2 hour job based on where it is located and amount of time to take stuff off the engine to get to it.

I would see if you could find a local diesel mechanic who will have a really big scan tool that will detect if it is the plug, the wiring or something else and hopefully fix it the same day.

If you are blowing black smoke on startup, hard start, miss or noisy engine on start or all of these than it is a good idea to get it fixed before a long drive.

Hello All, I picked up 2 glow plugs from the local Chevy dealer. I had to remove the fuel filter to get to #6 plug so in the mean time I replaced the #8 plug. The check engine light has stayed off so I hope all is well. Thanks for the input.
