Question 2012 E450 auxillary start button?

Can someone explain to me what the auxillary start button is for and when I would need to use it? It's located low on the dash in front of the drivers left knee.

The auxillary start switch typically allows current from the house battery to the starter in the event the chassis battery has insufficent current to start the engine.

It's a built in jump starter. Id still carry jumper cables just in case.
