What is the recommended Engine Oil in the Mercedes Sprinter 3.0 Turbo Diesel engine?

I have yet to see a specific oil mentioned. There's the standard attached - 229.52 - but you can get that in a number of oils. I think they're recommending Mobil 1 right now. I believe any good synthetic, 5W-40 oil will work. My brother swears by Amsoil. There are a lot of opinions. I had some Motul around from my VW and topped off with that. Takes a whole lot of oil, over 12 quarts, to fill the tank and engine. I'll be curious to see what others are using. Someone told me the dealership near me used Quaker State synthetic.

As mentioned above, the 229.52 is the current MB spec. I am currently running the Mobil 1 ESP 5w40 in mine.

I am using Mobil 1 ESP in my 2020 unit. This oil is approved by Mercedes for the diesel sprinter.

I buy my oil at the Albuquerque Mercedes dealer. I ask for a discount, and they give me a little one.
The parts guy says the oil is Mobile 1.
I change it myself. Not hard to do.
The hardest part was finding an oil-cap wrench that fits.
I don't recall just what size it is, but I found one online at FCP Euro, a part place in Connecticut. I also found the turbo hose there.
Their sales arrangement says if a part they sell fails, they'll replace it, free of charge, or something like that. Which means if the turbo hose I bought fails, they'll ship a new one. It's essentially two for one, or three for one, etc.

I have a 2019 Jayco Melbourne 24L with a 2018 chassis. I use Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 oil filter Mann HU 821X . I also installed a EZ oil drain plug…makes draining oil a snap. Watch NAPA they run the oil on sale at times. The wrench to loosen the oil filter cap I bought on Amazon. Pay close attention to O ring placement on the cap, install it wrong and you will have a oil mess.

Wrench and Oil

Ok, purchased the Oil Filter canister wrench on amazon for 12.00, got Mobil 1 5w-30 ESP at Autozone for about $3200 for a 5 qt. container! Thanks everyone for the info. $100.00 per oil change is a little different than $400.00 at the dealer.

I've only changed my oil one time. The ESP is recommended by Mercedes and needs to be used for warranty purposes. The link below shows a kit. It has increased in price since I last ordered. I had almost 2 qts. of oil left over.

Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30, Auto Zone, $32.00 a 5Qt. Bottle, 12 Qts, $76.00, Roc Auto on Line, Oil Filter, 2 Gaskets Included, Mann Filter# HU821X $6.45 to the door) $82.45 Total. That's a Big Savings! Keep in mind with the emissions changes to our engines you should probably do oil changes more frequently! May every 6 to 8K or ouch a year! This price makes it easier to stomach!
