2017 Seneca freshwater tank

Tried to fill my freshwater tank the other day and could only get it to fill at a rate of 2 gal./min. Valves were set per the chart 1 & 6 and the inlet screen was clean. Any ideas on what is the problem.

Vent restricted? Some people add vent shut offs to prevent losing water while traveling.

Filter plugged? Filter valves all the way open?

Using pressure regulator? What is your flow rate filling a bucket?

I don’t have the same water valve setup so not sure what the correct positions are on your unit. I have four valves.

Normally the unit goes into check valve/ screen to the filter housing with shut off valves then to the tank inlet. So pretty straight shot.

Post what you find.

So far I have not found the problem if there really is one. I have done this..turned off 1/4 turn innlet valve to the filter to verify that incoming water goes thru the filter then the tank..checked flow rate again, I have a flow meter that connects on the hose, and it is 2gpm with 1/2" hose and 2.2gpm with 5/8 hose. Removed filter, reinstalled the canister and checked flow rate again..no change..open hose flow rate is 4gpm. I have not yet found the tank vent but I doubt that when first starting to fill an empty tank that a closed vent would have a great impact.

On my Winnebago. the filler was large enough for air to escape at that point. With Jayco as you know the system is different. I have no idea how the air escapes this system.

I will measure my flow rate tomorrow as we gear up for a trip and will post what I get.

Tried to use my flow meter but it failed during the calibration. It read 3.7 when I had filled a five gallon container. So it was a bust.

Why do you need a gadget to fill the Fw-tank, full is full. It will overflow in the vent hose.
Nice thing about liquid it will seek the lowest point.

The reason for using a flow meter is there are certain times when I do not want to carry a full tank of fresh water due to the weight so by using the flow meter I can calculate the amount of weight I am adding. This may not be a concern for everybody but for me is it very useful

I removed the panel in front of the tank. I now have full view of the tank and can see the tank levels as well as more storage in the compartment.

When I am filling the tank, I turn on the water and walk around and look directly at the tank level. Makes it very easy and accurate.

Also, by removing the panel I can easily fit three folding chairs below the tank.

Mine has always filled slowly, but I attributed it to a .5 micron filter I installed.

Can u tell me the purpose of the 3 white/blue lines that come out of the top of the tank on the left end. I traced mine and they all go nowhere, just open end like a vent. Also, is the blue pex line on the right the fill/drain line?

I used to do the same thing. Remember the valving used in the manifold is probably closer to 3/8 than 1/2 inch pipe so you're probably getting some restriction there.

They are the vent lines that allow air to escape when filling and allow air to return in when suctioning water out. Also drain when overfilling. And I guess 3 lines are better than 1.

Those are also the built in Auto Siphoning hoses to drain half your tank This is the air break I out together on mine, hasn't siphoned since.

1. I always carry a full tank of fresh water for unforeseen events like a CG losing their water supply (that happened to us). ‘Full’ means topped off less the water that siphons out the vents once we hit the road. The extra weight is nothing for the Seneca and doesn’t materially affect fuel economy. Periodically I’ll drain the tank and refill and add some bleach.
2. If you don’t want to monitor the tank level like Mark S does (and I do), simply fill to you hear the excess dumping to ground via the tank vents.
3. You could fill the tank directly by adding a hose fitting to one of the three vent tubes that exit beneath near the right rear cap. I haven’t done this but see no reason you couldn’t.

This happens to me whenever I leave my filter in for too long.

If yours like my 2017 after a few miles your tank will dump about 25% through the vents.
