2017 Seneca M2 Rear Axle

Recently I was under our 2017 Seneca working on an issue with our leveling system. While there I observed that the Rear Differential Bell Housing was wet, and that there were droplets of lube on the bottom side.

Today I took her into my local Freightliner dealer/service center for inspection/repair.

This afternoon I received a call from the service adviser confirming that the differential is indeed leaking. To reseal it he explained that both rear axles will be removed, and the entire axle housing will have to be dropped from the chassis. He said that this is not common, but not unheard of either.

It might be a good idea to check for this the next time you are under your coach.

Fortunately we are still under warranty.

This is on the M2 chassis.

A warning all M2 Seneca owners need to heed!
Not a new issue unfortunately, I had to have mine repaired exactly as you stated and there was at least one other Seneca owner who had their's repaired. The rear differential carrier is sealed to the axle housing with silicone sealer (no gasket) and the factory must have had some bad sealer or difficulty in applying it properly.

My local Freightliner dealer went out of their way trying to convince Freightliner Corporation to cover my repairs despite me being out of warranty time-wise. They were unsuccessful, but they did discount my repair significantly. It is dry as a bone now!

I had mine done as well this summer on my 2018ts. I also had to have the input shaft seal on the transmission done as well. I was wondering if it was because the unit had sat on the dealers lot brand new for over a year?

my pinion shaft was leaking on mine ,and when i went to check the oil level it was over full. i drained a little out and it hasn't leaked since

I was just months out of warranty and my local Freightliner dealer tried convincing Freightliner Corp to fix it due to the minuscule miles we put on our rigs compared to similar commercial trucks. No luck with that argument but the dealer felt bad and repaired mine for $653 including new synthetic gear oil. I was expecting at least twice that amount!

Just finished replacing my gear oil. Took 7 quarts.

The seal on my 2014 leaked. It wasn't real bad, but left a stain and OCD'd. I Googled trucker sites about the problem and the consensus was to spray brake cleaner, wire brush, and spray again to clean. The one and only sealant was
Permatex 25228 The Right Stuff 90 Minute Black Gasket Maker because it sets up so fast. Really smear it in the housing with your finger. 6 years on repair and $20 and dry as a bone.
