2018 Seneca Swivel front seats and 15k hitch

I apologize that I poorly labeled my first post “taking the plunge” as I’m not sure anyone would know it’s a Seneca post.

Big thanks to Robbbyr and Crossingover for welcoming us to Seneca Ownership. Coming over to a 2018 Seneca 37 K from a 2014 Greyhawk 31 fs. Should be bringing the new rig home in the next two weeks!! Thought we wanted an Entegra Aspire 44R until we realized that we could meet all of our needs in a Super C for 135k less!! (3 teenagers, DW and a Maltese)

Will take any advice/wisdom/pearls that you have but two questions for now:

1. Pg 49 in the 2018 Seneca Manuel says that the front seats swivel to face the rear in “select units”. Is this true? It would be a big plus, but I’ve also watched Kuhl Odessy video on how to do that.

2. Also, in the Manuel it actually says the hitch is rated for 15k pounds while on Jayco website specs it says 10k hitch. GVWR is 29000lbs and GCWR is 38000lbs. I can’t find the unloaded weight rating. I am assuming that if my tanks are not full then that would increase my towing capacity up to 15,000 lbs just so long as we did not exceed a combined vehicle weight of 38,000 pounds. Is this correct? I in no way think that the dry weight will be anywhere close to allowing 15,000 pounds to be towed nor do I need to tow that much, but I am just unsure exactly how to do the math since there are two different listings for tow capacity

Thanks again for any information and look forward to hopefully contributing to the website as I learn more.

2018 Seneca Swivel front seats and 15k hitch

As others noted welcome to the club.

The seats do not turn unless they have changed this with the 2018.5 units which is possible as this is a different chassis and many of the m2 components have been moved with the removal of the front fuel tanks.

The new chassis is in fact rated at 38,000 and if you fully load the coach you can tow a 9,000 trailer. If you carry less you go up to 15,000lbs.

The best way to verify this is to look at the yellow weight ticket. This will explain what your unit weight is with propane and fuel. Then you add people, stuff and water to come up with your actual weight. Once you know this you can determine how much you can tow.

I believe I read somewhere that the hitch receiver is now 15000 lbs. it is important to buy drop hitches and ball at this rating to remain safe if you are going to approach these weights. Good luck and enjoy the experience

10,000 tow hitch

I was able to meet one of the Jayco gentlemen who work in design with the Seneca at The Greensboro RV show. We discussed this towing weight aspect and he agrees that the vehicle (new SRV2) has the capability of towing 15,000, BUT the current installed hitch component is only rated to 10,000.

The seats do not swivel, although I also was able to see a renegade at the Greensboro show in which the seats did swivel and, with its M2 112 chassis, could tow 20,000.

Gongradulations on your new truck, I am sure you will enjoy it as much as all of us on here!

New pics 2018 Seneca

My Seneca has arrived! We were able to do a walk through today. Several pics taken. We get to bring her home next Friday after all prep work is done and vented w/d installed.

No swivel on front seats as expected. Was surprised to see that GCWR is actually 39k and UVW (full propane and fuel) was around 24k.

I added photos so hopefully they will upload!

It will be a long week. Congrats. Nice looking unit. I like the expandable couch and no wiring under the seats.

That is a gorgeous truck! Have fun with it!

Thank you! We are super excited.

The more I thought about it, the more sense it made to just order the 2” blue ox. I have a sleeve anyway if it’s 2.5...and i Bet mine will be the same as yours.
