2020 vs 2019 Melbourne Prestige

We are looking to purchase a MP 24KP. I can get a new 2019 model for $10,000 less than a new 2020 (with the new 2019 MBZ chassis).

Any experience to share as to whether one deal is better than the other?

Thank you

I can't help with your question, but welcome to the Forum. Perhaps someone will be along with their thoughts.

Welcome to the forum. Look at the chassis features of both. 2019 chassis has more features available but the question is which ones Jayco ordered. There is a 4500 option (adds about 1200lbs capacity) but I am assuming Jayco stayed with the 3500. The engines are the same but the 2019 (2020 Jayco)has a 7 speed transmission which I assume would be a little better with Fuel mileage. Then there’s always those that stay away from the first year of a major model change.

Determine if there are any differences, upgrades, mods, etc. Then decide if the extra cost of the 2020 is worth it.
We have a 2017 Melbourne 24M (with the Murphy bed, which I think is no longer offered) and we love it.
During the first 20 months or so of ownership, it was in the shop, often, for repairs and various issues. It has been out of warranty now for six months -- and it seems like the bugs have been worked out.....

For MB Chassis issues or Jayco issues?

I am curious about this too, because I do not believe the Jayco’s I have seen have the newer Sprinter Chassis.

Newer isn't necessarily better. We purchased ours (not the Prestige) in 2016. It was an early 2017 (2016 chassis) and had features that we liked that were actually taken away on the later models. The biggest change in our minds was that they took out the back bedroom window - we can't imagine our bedroom without that spacious back window that we can keep open even when it rains!). They haven't put in a back window since! Another thing that changed was the replacement of the glass shower door with cloth. For us, that was a downgrade instead of upgrade. My point, even if it's a 2019 vs. a 2020, they do all kinds of weird things to them mid-year, so check the actual unit. Don't rely on the year. And yes, some have said they love the headboard iinstead of the window. For us, NOT. We love the visibility and the extra light, but it saved Jayco $3,000 in manufacturing costs to eliminate it.

You have to remember many changes come from what the dealers tell JAYCO the customer is asking for not all are done based on internal decisions.

Their dealer advisory council has more influence than you think.

A Jayco rep, when we were in Middlebury, IN, quoted the $3,000 figure and said it was more profitable without it. We asked.

I would stay away from Kayco products. We have a 2020 Melbourne with several problems.

First off, what's a "Kayco"???

And second, are you going to continue to repost this same comment in multiple threads?

NO the vast majority are Happy, the only ones who post are the unhappy people. You find the same on any site no matter who the manufacturer. Also most often the dealer is the problem not JAYCO.

Not sure what you were expecting when you bought your rig, but going around and posting the same comment in multiple threads isn't helpful to the forum.

We don't have the Prestige, but our 2017 Melbourne with 34,000 miles on it is awesome and just celebrated its 4th year since we purchased it! Wouldn't trade it for ANYTHING!!!

Glad to hear that koko we have had a few issues with our 2019 Melbourne Prestige but our dealer and Jayco have been pretty good so far.
