2022 Ford problem

My 2022 Ford E450 on my 29V with 2K miles lost power steering and brakes when making a tight turn out of a parking space.
Seems a line running from the fluid tank popped out of a fitting on a block on the firewall and dumped all the fluid. Had to be towed to a Ford garage.
Waiting to hear the cause and fix.

It sounds like you have a Hydroboost system. The power brake assist comes from the power steering. If you made a hard turn and turned the wheel hard to lock, the increased pressure popped the line off.

Power steering and Brake loss

The issue with my 2022 Esteem with only 2k miles was the high pressure hoses going into the booster.
Was towed to a dealer in Orlando, on Nov 20th, and was told all Ford parts on back order and do not expect them till after the 15th of Dec.
Well they called yesterday, my unit is all done and tested, new hoses and new fittings. I guess I am not the only one with this problem.
Maybe me calling Ford Motorhome division and starting a case number helped to expedite the parts, who knows.
It will take a while making tight turns before I have trust in the RV again.
Losing both brakes and steering is concerning.

Jim

This is EXACTLY what happened to me crossing the Al-Can highway this past fall in our 2021 Greyhawk 27U (E450 chassis.) It took a week to source the replacement parts and was a hassle to get fixed in Tok, AK (didn't want to get towed to the nearest Ford Commercial dealer in Fairbanks, so decided to pay out of pocket.)

Clear design flaw, and we were disappointed this happened in such a new, widely-used chassis.

Did they replace two high pressure hoses that were defective ? Hopefully the new parts have been reengineered. Might I ask how much it cost you ?

It took 3 weeks for my parts to come in and that was a week before they were scheduled.
Sure is scary when you lose power steering and brakes.

I'm assuming this would be the same issue with 2021 Redhawks?

I'd have to check-- traveling now, and don't have the invoice in front of me. Off memory, the water pump itself was ~$500, then whatever it cost for the new serpentine cable and flanged connector.

Yeah, it was scary coming crossing the Canadian and US borders into Alaska with mushy brakes and steering. It's pretty hilly! I kept my speed way down and took my time.

Should be the same issue with any E450 chassis regardless of RV model.

Happened again!!! I have an appointment to get it serviced again, this time under the Ford-issued warranty. Not happy that we've lost our May camping plans thanks to this flaw.

I started that second thread before searching, finding and responding to the original. Excuse the etiquette foul.

No worries...it usually happens in pairs! One owner has the issue, then 6 do!

I found this link addressing the issue:

https://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2...id-leaks.shtml.

It appears to affect the Ford E-350 and Ford E-450 vehicles built between May 11, 2019, and June 17, 2021 per the document.

It would be great if they had a list of VIN ranges that are affected.

That said it looks like I dodged the bullet by 4 months, manufactured 10/21.

Just had mine replaced under the Ford Recall. 2021 7.3 liter with around 14k miles. It took an act of congress to get the appointment (2 months). I hope they replaced the correct line and didn't cross thread it. I say that because, after returning home, looked under the hood and found lots of red fluid. I hope it is power steering fluid that they spilled while changing the line(s). If it is brake fluid, then I'm going to have paint coming off everywhere. The work order stated that they pressure cleaned the engine, but that was a lie. There is normal dust everywhere that doesn't have the red liquid. ... and I damn sure hope it's not leaking. (FYI: Brake fluid is an excellent paint remover)
