24k slide out don’t work when engine is on
Does anyone know why the slide outs won’t work when the engine is running. Seems strange when you dry camp because they drain a lot of the battery. Is there a way to override the interlock so they will work with the engine running. Is there a reason why Jayco did this.

You know they say if you read one of the warning labels saying not to do for safety someone has done it. I saw a guy leave the camp ground with his slide out at least he retraced the awning how far he got I do not know

I would assume they don’t want the slide button to have power while moving. Imagine if a passenger pushed the button and the slide started to move out while you were driving at 65 mph. I do agree it would be nice to have the added power while doing the slide operation. If my batteries are running down I start up the generator.

x2
It's recommended to have the generator running when opening and closing the slides. Their power comes from the coach battery not the engine battery.

Generator battery
Yes that’s correct. The truck battery does not supply any power at all to the coach. I just disconnected my coach battery and nothing operates in the coach. It’s funny because in my Itasca Navion you could do the slides as long as the parking brake was on. Seems to me that that would be the best interlock.

So you don't get stranded with all the batteries dead.
If the engine is running it will supply power to the coach to charge the batteries and you can use the aux start button on the dash to close the slides in an emergency. Of course it will take two people.

The Melbourne only has one type 27 battery. There is no aux start either. I guess the only way out is to carry a second battery.

Not suppose to. It's a safety feature so people won't be pulling their slideouts while driving, same goes with the levelers.

I agree with the safety aspect but why couldn’t they do like Winnebago and interlock the slide out and awning power with the handbrake.

I am confused here. I am about 95% sure I can use my slide outs when the engine is running. I have to turn the main power switch on as sometimes there isn’t enough juice in my house battery so I get the engine running first then operate the slides. Mine is a 2016 so maybe this is a feature on the newer models or maybe I’m just misunderstanding the question.

Then you have 2 batteries. One coach and one chassis just like the Greyhawk, unless they recently upgraded the coach to two.

What is this main power switch you’re talking about?

Yes. One in the coach and one in the chassis. I wish I could fit a second battery in but there’s no room.

"What does ASR do in a car?
A traction control system (TCS), also known as ASR (from German: Antriebsschlupfregelung, lit. 'engine slippage regulation'), is typically (but not necessarily) a secondary function of the electronic stability control (ESC) on production motor vehicles, designed to prevent loss of traction of driven road wheels."

I am far from home, my computer and my 24K at the moment but I found a photo of my cat showing the main coach power switch - kind of. Its the rocker switch, where you see the top red light in the pic. It cuts the power on/off to the living quarters. Well, the coach battery anyway.
I remember this at the initial walk through. There is a switch under the drivers right side close to your leg, gas pedal, etc. no idea what it’s called but you use it if your battery that starts the engine dies. It allows you to use the coach battery to start the rig. I am basing this off of a shotty memory but that could be what you are seeing.

Did you buy your RV new? I don’t know about the slides not working when the engine is on but the dead chassis battery switch and coach main disconnect switch should have been covered in your walk through. The slides if not in the walk through in your owners manual for sure. If you don’t have a manual they are available for downloading. Makes very interesting reading.
