30amp plug into 50amp at campground
I have 2021 greyhawk 31f. Looking into a popular campground to visit and all their sites are 50 amp. Greyhawk is 30amp. The person at the park says you just need an 30 to 50 amp adapter. Anyone run into this without any issues? Don't want to burn the thing up

The adapter is fairly common and not an issue as you still have a 30a main breaker in the RV breaker panel.
BTW, when searching for the adapter be sure to find one that is correct with the plug ends that you need, most commonly stated as a "50 to 30" amp adapter (vs 30 to 50).

The adaptors are readily available. I have one and try not to use it. Others prefer use them all the time.
You are wise to be cautious. The main MH breaker is 30 amp, so everything inside the MH is properly protected. The real issue is the cord between the CG shore power post and your internal circuit breaker. As long as you your cord is in good shape you will be fine. That cord is only rated for 30 amps. So if something would happen to your cord it may not trip the Shore Power circuit breaker, before it melts.

It's not a problem, the adapter just uses one leg of the 50-amp service to feed your rig.

Have a couple of them and have never used it, try not to unless the 30A circuit is bad. If so, I make park maintenance come and fix it.

I use mine all the time. Don't skimp. I like the ones with a bit of a handle to plug and unplug.

Use the 50 amp with the adapter all the time when you can. Most 30 amp plugs are worn out and have been overheated. the 50 amp is much more robust. Your voltage will be better most of the time! Recommend the Camco brand!

Yep.. We thought our 30 amp service was kaput and someone brought over a 30-50. The male female ends are reversed from a 50-30.

Surge protector
As said before, no problem. You should look into a surge protector. I bought a reasonably priced one that checks basic polarities as well. A little piece of mind

This. Don't be afraid to use one of these on your 30-amp plug. No issues to worry about. Get one at your local RV center.

Remember your 30 amp cord is not just outside your rv Depending on your rv configuration your 30 amp cord could run the entire length inside your rv from where it enters to the panel inside. Not recommended in my opinion

Don’t think you can use a 30 amp surge protector in this situation

50-30 amp
Indeed this forum is a treasure trove of great facts, figures & experiences. May I throw in 2 cents more: the electric pedestal is not "pumping" 50 amps into your rig. Your rig can "pull" up to 30 amps before circuit breakers start tripping (sometimes sooner). Also I highly recommend Softstart units for your rooftop air conditioner(s). With these I have been able to run one a/c at a time off my home garage 20 amp outlet without a problem. Have a fun trip!

A 30 amp cord short will still trip the 50 amp breaker. The 30 amp RV main will protect the 30 amp cord from overloads inside the RV.
No different than a light weight cord being plugged into a 20 amp breaker in your home.
Extremely low risk, especially if you take care of your equipment IMHO
Bigger risk from worn out 30 amp park receptacles overheating and melting your plug and causing power surges. IMHO

The reason the surge protector is so good is that we've been at some pretty bad campgrounds and were even afraid to plug into their power. As someone else said, peace of mind.
