A/C frustration Jayco Seneca.

Hi all, well we are out on our first trip in our 2020 Jayco Seneca. Kids hot warm so I kicked on the generator and put the front AC on. Nothing but warm air. Pulled in for the night and hooked up to 50 amp. The bedroom AC works great but the living room just blows air. The compressor is t kicking in. Any suggestions would be great. Forgot to mention the windshield took a rock an hour into our trip. Will need to replace that when we return.

When running both units some times the thermostat will be satisfied but if you have the unit on either hi or low cool the fan will continue to run but since the set point is higher then the actual temperature the thermostat is sensing the compressor will not come on. So make sure you set the unit to a low enough temperature. My living room thermostat is located in a hallway closer to my bedroom then the living room so the living room might be ten degrees hotter then the hallway where the thermostat is.

The other thing that can happen is you can have dirty filters the unit can freeze up and only blow hot air. Not likely with a new unit but you never know.

Could also be a bad circuit or loose wire.

Sorry to hear of your problems but hopefully they get resolved and you will not have any further issues. Congrats on the rig.

You could pull the inside covers and check the wiring to make sure nothing is loose or unplugged but more than likely the unit is bad. Our rear A/C went out in only 3 months. We bypassed Jayco and went direct to the manufacturer for the warranty and it got taken care of extremely fast through an independent RV shop. Just depends on your dealer.

If its a 2020, its still under warranty and take it in to be resolved.

Thanks for the replies, this too shall come to pass. Of course we are heading to hot humid conditions. I’m going to run a fan near the bedroom to blow the cold upfront. This short trip was to get these issues worked out.

Unlike the earlier units you do not have a thermostat on the wall. You do have a couple of temperature sensors which are mounted on the wall and look like small black buttons. In my coach I have one on the wall in the hallway and there is one on the wardrobe in the bedroom. Make sure the sensors are not obstructed.

If you close the vents on the AC unit grille in the bedroom that AC unit should blow air through the vents in the living area.

Also, set the fan to Auto and not low or high. I found in a prior rig that the fan setting can impact how the heat and AC work and which ducts or registers the air blows through. In that coach Auto would send heat through the heater ducts (floor level) but high or low would send cold air through the ceiling ducts.

What EA37TS said..put the thermostat on AUTO or the fan will run all the time whether or not the unit calls for cooling..Like ours, if running both AC units, the bedroom unit will sometimes provide enough cooling to cause the front thermostat to be satisfied and the compressor will not turn on. Another check is to close off the bedroom and set the living room thermostat to a fairly low temp and see if it works then

Lots of good advice above. A couple of troubleshooting items/Questions. In order to eliminate the rear A/C being in the equation, I'm guessing you tried to use the front A/C first and did not turn on rear?
Did system work during PDI?
When you set the temp set point for the front unit is it at least 2 degrees lower then "room temp"? My Accolade will not call for cooling or heating(heatpump) if not set with a greater then 2 degree difference. If you are setting temp well below room temp does the snow flake appear by temp?
You may call Jayco on Monday and see if they have other troubleshooting ideas. Maybe a reset of the touchpad control is needed. I'm still educating myself on touch system and do not fully understand the intricacy's.

Other then that, Rusty is probably right and it died a quick death. My parents rear unit on their Precept developed a split in the copper tubing of their compressor just out of warranty, but luckily my dad can work on those systems. It started to have oil in condesate running off unit and then obviously stopped cooling. He was able to solder a new section of tubing, clean, purge and add freon. Been working fine for past 3 years.
If your comfortable with the idea you may hop on your roof and see if you see any tell tail signs of oily residue from compressor oil or take off A/C cover and visually inspect tubing and pan of unit for oil or splits.
Sorry for your troubles on your new unit, great job of just rolling with it and not letting it ruin your trip!

For us in our 37FS, we have found the front AC blower to be noisier than we like, so the front AC gets used a lot less than the rear. We usually just run the rear AC and use a tower fan to pull the air forward. We run the rear blower almost all the time, even when the AC isn't on. Different strokes for different folks. This is what has worked for us living in our Seneca almost 9 months a year for the last 5 years.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We have tried them all to no avail. We bought a standing fan and shut down the vents in the unit to force air upfront. I will say on a positive note, I love love love the ride and towing with this rig. Our toad is a 2015 Jeep JK. Super impressed. Already called the dealer to give them a heads up. They’ve been great to deal with so far.......let the punch list begin!��

If you remove the inside plastic cover, 4-5 screws, you should find a sticker in there with your model number on it. It is best to verify what yours is before ordering. Here is a pic of the unit in mine.
