A/C size

If a unit has a 15,000 BTU unit does that usually mean it has only one unit and the ones with 11,000 have two units?

I would want two 15's in hot climates. If you get somewhere where you don't have shade...........you'll be glad you did. Like most things......better a little too much than not quite enough

Sometimes on smaller units they use 2-11,000's so they can run both on 30 amp service at the same time. ( I've read that somewhere on here but I don't really know if that's correct )

Yep, Greyhawk for one. It also includes a power management system.

What Jayco are you looking at? Makes a big difference in what is available.

We have a Greyhwawk 29MVP with two 11K a/c units and it cools great. As Grumpy said we also have 30 amp service with a Power Control System that monitors and sheds loads when necessary to keep you from overloading the system.

If you need two 15K units you will need 50 amp service which is not available in Redhawks or Greyhawks.

I have a Grayhawk 31DS and live in south Louisiana. The two 11k works great for us. Have camped next to people that had a Grayhawk with the single 15k unit and they had trouble keeping there unit cool.

The answers are right - but you posted in a Class C section, so **in general** our Class C's come with 30A service.

That's enough power for one 15K AC unit or two 11K AC units. Larger motorhomes and trailers with 50A service can run a couple of 15K ACs.

The newer Jayco's offer two 11K AC units as an option, and Power Management System that's smart enough to keep almost everything running. Without that system, you'd be flipping off one AC to flip on the microwave for example.

As for "are 2 11K units going to keep you cool in hot climes" - I can tell you that one 15K unit will NOT keep the larger Class C motorhomes cool. There are a few threads on this.

But if I had the chance to do it over, and if I'm in a larger Class C, then two AC units is a must for me.

On my Greyhawk, one 11k would not be enough. I know another person that has one and when its over 90, it won't keep the unit below 80. I have two 11k units. I was in Moab UT with 105 degree heat and the two units kept the inside at 75 while the RV was in full sun. They ran almost 100% of the time. I did have one unit on for a bit and it wouldn't get below ~90.

As far as AC goes, I always get the most and biggest. That's one item I wouldn't sacrifice on and its usually a relatively small cost increase from the beginning.

+1 to all those who are recommending 2 AC units. My trailer had one 15K unit, and sometimes it struggled to keep things tolerable. If we hadn't traded it on a motor home, I was going to put a second unit in, but that would've been easy because it came with "2nd AC prep". Should've had the dealer just add it before I picked it up...

Anyway, one AC unit on the motor home was a deal breaker for us. Our two 11K units (with the power management system) keep our unit cool even in direct sun up into the high 90s at least. They run constantly, but they get the job done. I'll never own one without two ACs again.
