accessing water pump filter

I'm trying to catch up on maintenance on my new to me 2014 Melbourne 29D. One of the jobs I need to do is to clean the water pump filter. I finally found the pump by unscrewing the face plate (where the 2 water selector knobs are) at the exterior water center. I can see the pump but can't get to it. Does anyone know the best way to get to that filter? And, although I have a water filter under the kitchen sink, is it a good idea to use one of those inexpensive, blue, Camco filters at the spigot too?

My Greyhawk has a built-in replaceable water filter which I change annually. In addition, I use one of those blue Camco filters inline with my hose connection when filling the tank. That way I get clean water going in.

I had a Lance camper which I used for 25 years. It did not have a built-in filter. I'm not sure if I always filtered the water going in. I didn't seem to encounter any adverse effects from that water. The 3rd arm I grew must have been from something else.
