Added protection

After having an anomymous driver tap my rear corner in a parking lot for 1400.00 dollars worth of repairs later, I came up with this also should have the insert bumper for the reciever up soon . Hope it helps, gord

Nice job! It's a shame you had to create it yourself. Jayco needs to put bumpers on those rigs for sure.

I like it.

I just finished looking on the internet at RV's an bumpers. It is interesting that only a couple had rear (usable) bumpers, but none had any that wrapped around the sides. The front bumpers were ALL flush with the body so any contact would probably have body panel damage also.

You may want to start a side line business manufacturing bumpers for RV's.

NICE JOB!!

Don

You may want to add these to your RV also.

Gord,

Very impressive mod. Please post a picture of the bumper insert when you are done. Thanks!

Here is the new insert

I wired the clearance light to come on with the key and brake lights to come with the coach brake lights should make me more visible and provide a little bump protection

You can also wire in a pressure switch and a high pressure nozzle that empties out your black tank whenever someone hits the bumper....

Off topic but it reminds me to get back working on my Anti-Tailgater device.

Looks nice but I don't see it being to effective since its so low, most bumpers will go right over it but I guess its better than nothing if you ever get hit again.

Looks good, but a constructive question. Are you under legal width of 102".

For the near-term my toad will be Enterprise Rental, so I'm very concerned about the back-end exposure. I think this is great...could you post a few more pictures for detail: The back of the insert and a side view of the insert installed into the hitch. Thank you very much for posting this. As with any mouse trap, there will be room for improvement but this is a darn good start!

Did the measurement

You made me curious so I measured it and it was a hair over 103 inches, to be honest when I built it I thought it's still narrower than the mirrors so I should be ok. So that 5/8ths of an inch per side could get me in trouble if they ever measure the width so I had better drive straight and not give them a reason to stop me I guess. As for pictures on the insert once mother nature stops the snow fall right now and it all dry's out I will take some for you guy's and of the auxiliary 50 gallon tank water tank we installed between the rails
