Adding a TV: Will any brand do?

The Jensen TV that came with Harvey the RV has seen better days and we probably will be replacing soon. So the question is:

Are these RV TVs just regular TVs or is there something special about them?
Will any brand do?

I have had a non-rv-specialized TV in my trailer since 2012 over at least 40,000 miles and have had no TV related issues of any sort. First was a Samsung and then a (bigger) Vizio.

In my past two toyhaulers I bought the cheapest TVs that fit the size I wanted. After many miles they all worked great. I just made sure the brackets and TV were secured in place with Velcro while travelling.

I put a regular 39" Vizio LED HD in mine last year and it's been fine. Got it on sale at Walmart.

Jayco replaced main TV under warranty with another brand and as a result the original sets can receive digital campground cable and the new one cannot. According to the response I got from the TV mfgr (Seiki) the replacement lacks a built-in QAM tuner. If you don't care, follow the cheapie advice else do more research.

I replaced one off the shelf at Walmart. Vizio was the brand. My only advise would be to look at the screen in the store and make sure the field of vision is wide enough for where you will mount it.

Also I am dead set against extended warranties but I have to admit I did buy one for the tv set. It was less than 20 bucks for a 2 year extended warranty. BTW, it did not have any problems in 2 year but I don't regret the insurance.

I lay a used 8 yr old residential tv on the queen bed while traveling and use it outside under the canopy without issues. It picks up/programs at all the CG's I've used it at so far.

The only problem you may run into is what power is running the HDTV set.. 120VAC or 12VDC... The Jensen is probably a 12VDC power source item...

You can add a small wattage 150WATT PSW small Power Inverter just for the home entertainment items and then can get the 120VAC off the power inverter when camping off the grid...

I got a couple of the VIZIO 120VAC brands from WALMART. They also have their TV sets on sale it seems...

We did the same as other posters. We had a factory 32" LCD TV originally before it got stolen. Replaced it with a lighter 32" LED TV 3 years ago a haven't had a problem. I think I paid around $160 for it at BestBuys. I do remove it during the winter.

Those Insignia TVs that I bought were 120V AC with a Wall Wart. Then I looked at the Wall Wart and saw it was pushing out 12V DC.

So all it took was a $3 12V plug to connect the TVs to the coach 12V power.

If running on 12V DC is a must, I'd do a little digging for a LED TV that has the same thing -- a 120V AC wall wart that feeds 12V DC to the TV.

Like Jimp cheap TV in the queen bed to travel. I would try to find one with digital capabilities.

I bought a new 32" Insignia from Best Buy as well. Had it our toy hauler for about 6,000 (rough) miles worked flawlessly. Very lightweight.

My North Point 377RLBH will be in around the beginning of April.
I did not order a TV for the loft, I have to buy one.
Does my RV have 120v TV's or 12v TV's? Any info will be helpful.

Umm - I don't have your unit but I'm wondering if the answer might be "both"?

If you unit has a standard, household electrical plug near the TV spot, then you're ready for 120V AC appliances (TV, Blu-ray).

Bear in mind, you'll need to be hooked to shore power, run the generator or have an inverter to power those outlets.

If the spot by the TV has a 12V Outlet (big, round hold looks like the 12V outlets in your dash) then your TV expects 12V DC. You'll need to find a TV that can run on 12V

Or buy an inexpensive ($35ish) inverter to provide 120V AC from 12V DC.

Sure - wasn't sure if that's what you were asking. Holler if you have questions. It took me a while to figure out all of the electrical "stuff" in our motorhome.

Didn't remember seeing the outlets when we were at the dealer.
I'll wait until I get the RV & see what's in the loft.
Thanks for answering.
