Advice on 2010 Greyhawk 31fk

I am looking at a 2010 Jayco Greyhawk 31fk with 90k Miles, (yes, the miles scare me!) for $32,000. Generator has 600 hours. Of course it has several minor cosemetic issues on the interior and exterior. Is the there any issues I need to be on the lookout for? We have had travel trailers all my life, but this will be our first RV. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Do you like the floor plan? Does it come with service records?

We do like the floor plan. No service records. Our budget is $35k...I’ve been looking for about a month and this seems to be the best for the money I’ve come across.

Check the date code on the tires. They might be 8+ years old. If so, you'll need new ones.

If it was a car or econoline van, driven regularly it would have 120,000-150,000 miles on it. As was mentioned ask about service frequency.

X2

It may have been a typical snowbird (or sunbird) owner that would easily put 5k on it a year... makes me think that it is better than a rig that has been parked for most of it's life "IF" it has been getting it's regular service. Some Ford service centers will look up the VIN to see what service it has received.

That's what my dealer always said. He was leary of low mileage rigs.

Good points. It seems very sound mechanically. So, does it sound like a fair deal to you all?

Average retail is around $36,000, I'd offer $30,000 you can always come up.

You won't get that from a dealer 8 out of 10 times on a used unit.

We bought a 2008 Jayco Melborne

Ok we just bought a 08 Melborne on a Ford 450 with 49000 miles. I was leary but after searching what is available and looking at quality verse a newer one or a
a new one we bit the bullet. Ok we are in Canada so prices for repair parts ect are
not the same as in the States. We have invested $4500 in repairs so far. But this includes: 6 new tires, a new slide topper, a new truck battery, a new 10inch queen mattress, led lights and 3 new led light fixtures, plus 2 trips to the repair shop to repalce old grounds and some other electrical components. The dealer showed me thier invoices of about $4000 in reapairs before we purchased it.
So are we happy so far yes we have far less in this unit then a new Greyhawk or
Redhawk which is similar to this at 28 feet. Plus the quality is much better than new units in my opinion. Plus you can read about all the headaches new units have. This is our 3rd C class and we had a B also, none of them are perfect but
you can make this into your own with personal touches. Ours also has solar and
vent covers which someone else paid for. So if you like it go for it life is short.

So a 2010 Jayco means a 2009 Ford. Do a little research on it and see if you're scared off or not.

Our first RV was old with a ton of miles.
We had no problems - but we did replace tires. Remember it's not the tread left, is the age.

We have a 31FK.

We test drove a 2014 31FK and it wandered, lunged and lept all over the road. It was work to keep it on the straight an narrow. We ended up in a 2016 31FK and it's handling is much nicer.

I too am leery of the maintenance, but who knows? They could have taken great care of it. Ask them about generator oil changes and maintenance. If they know "every 150 hours" off the cuff, then maybe they took care of everything.

I think you'll be in the drivers seat. I'll bet they know it's going to be hard to unload that RV. Like someone else said, you could offer $29K, settle for $30K and have some budget left over for things that will break.

Not necessarily. It all depends on build date, our 2001 was on a 2001 chassis.

The motorhome has 90K miles and is approaching 10 year old. Even with fairly decent maintenance it's still going to be a money pit.

Everything is worn out or close...the shocks, tie rods, ball joints, all the appliances, generator, tires possible, roof if it's not fiberglass which I don't think fiberglass was offered back then like the greyhawks have now.

This thing could wind up costing him more in repairs than the purchase price. If he has a budget of $35K where is the money going to come from to fix the problems and replace stuff?

If the OP is really planning on using the motorhome for vacations and trips I would save up some more coin and invest in a much newer used one.

Summer is never a good time to buy so waiting a few more months when camping season is over could net a better motorhome.
