Battery Disconnect Rocker Switch

Hi everyone.

I have a question regarding the above subject, which is located at the inside entrance of my new to me 2009 Jayco Greyhawk ss31.

Can someone explain to me how this works. I understand it is a rocker switch. First push turns on house battery, second push turns it off, and third push turns it off indefinitely. The reset it, I turn engine on or turn accessories on and it is reset. Ready to go again. Sometimes the alarm goes off and I turn engine on to silence alarm.

What am I doing wrong and how do I operate the system correctly? The Owners Manual is ambitious.

Had the same model but an '08. Never heard of the 3rd option you mention. It's either "on" or "off" to my knowledge. It stays on or off until the rocker switch is pushed again.

Thank you for your response. If I disconnect, then connect the next time I use the RV but don't start the engine and disconnect again, the batteries will not connect unless I start the engine. If I do three rockers in a row, it will not connect unless I start the engine.

Please try this the next time you are at your RV, I need to know if I have oddity or if it happens with you also.

How much voltage are your coach batteries showing? Sounds to me like a dead or low coach battery...only until you start the coach it has enough power to connect.

Your switch should only do two things...connect and disconnect. No third push

Don't have the '08 anymore, but in the 3 yrs I owned it, it was on or off. I messed with it numerous times, never failed to click except for when the resistor or breaker at the house battery failed and had to be replaced.

this is in the owners manual for our 15 Seneca...

12-VOLT BATTERY DISCONNECT
The 12-volt battery disconnect switch is located near the entrance door. This
momentary switch controls a latching type solenoid (located near the house
batteries), which connects or disconnects the house batteries dependent upon the
number of times it is pushed.
When engaged the battery disconnect solenoid supplies battery power to all
accessories connected to the house 12-volt fuse panel.
The battery disconnect feature should be used to disconnect the motor home from
house battery power during periods of storage or during maintenance. The
solenoid must be engaged for the 12-volt house electrical system to operate.
Never depress the momentary battery disconnect switch for longer than 1 second.
Depressing and holding the switch down will disable the battery disconnect
solenoid. Should this occur the main ground cable for the house batteries must be
removed for 1 minute to re-enable the solenoid operation.

Thank you for your responses. My problem was multiple. First problem was caused by a lingering finger. Second occurrence was due to low voltage.

Now that I comprehend the operation the rocket performs as it should.

Thanks Slopoke. That is interesting... I never noticed that pushing the switch for longer than 1 second would disable a solenoid. It’s great to learn these little quirky procedures. I figure I just avoided an unwanted problem!
