Battery for Greyhawk 29MVP

Will probably be getting a Greyhawk 29MVP soon. What type of battery would you recommend? I know there's only one battery in the unit and I intend on just utilizing just one battery, at least for now. But I would like to know the brand of a good deep cycle battery. I guess the deep cycle batteries are the best right?

Thanks for the input.

The Jayco folks usually ship new units with a off brand deep cycle battery.
On delivery look at Date of MFG on the battery on the unit.
Our was out of warranty at delivery.
The dealer paid for a new one without a issue.
I have Deep Cycle gel cells, expensive but no maintenance
and hold the charge.

What is the brand and specs for the battery you bought? Also, I'm planning to do a reasonable amount to dry camping, so how has your battery held up when dry camping. How often do you need to run the generator to charge the battery?

We can go 2 days on Battery system only running Gennie for coffee and
Micro.
I have a unusual source for the Gel Cell. they come from a dealer who
buys used recycled gell cells from computer server companies.
They are Group 27, he has 29 and 24 available also.
The dealer is The Battery Man, 15th street Bessemer Alabama.
I have used his parts in golf carts boats Bikes Lawnmowers and
race cars!!
If you can find room for a 2nd battery it is worth the time.

I have a 2017 GreyHawk 29W and I dry camp almost all of the time. I installed two extra Group 27 deep cycle batteries in an aftermarket diamond plate battery box on my rear bumper. I tied these into my 12v system so that all three work and charge together. I can dry camp for a week or more with just running my generator for coffee pot and microwave.

After the first year, I pulled the 12V and installed two 6V deep cycle sealed batteries in series. I couldn't get one night on the 12V running the furnace, now I can go 3 nights and not have issues. Much better to upgrade if you ware spending the money in my opinion.

Thanks for your reply.

Where did you place the new 6 volt batteries? And what type of rig do you have? Did you place them in the location of the old 12 volt battery?

I have a 31DS and one battery went in the original location with the second in the empty compartment next to it. I was concerned about the weight of the battery in the poly storage compartment but chatted with Jayco directly and they said the weight rating was something like 150 lbs if my memory is correct. I used a local battery/auto electric store and they added a tie down bracket with metal plates through the bottom of the compartment. I also had them wire in a quick disconnect plug for future Solar application which I have not yet installed but have.

I dumped the original battery on my 2018 29 MV immediately. I purchased a Windy Nation 100 amp hour AGM sealed deep cell solar battery. It works great and keeps a charge. You'll need to modify the battery tray slightly for it to fit but it's much better than standard deep cycle batteries.

3 compartments...furthest back is where my shore power cable is, middle is the original 12V compartment (now with a 6V) front is just a poly storage bay which now has 6V number 2.

What kind of a battery is a deep cell solar battery?

How did you modify the battery tray? Can you elaborate on that point and show any pictures that you have? Thank you.

Battery tray

Can’t get pic without removing the battery which is a.bit of work. The battery fits in the tray but not with the rivets extending into the tray. I ground them down and it fits. No issues with the tray after mod

I have a 2015 31DS. Where did you mount the two 6 volt batteries. I don't think they will fit in my group 27 battery tray. Thanks for any help with this. I have been looking to do the same thing, but have no place to mount the batteries. If you did a mod on your rig, do you have pictures?
