Can I relay on the battery charging system from my motorhome to keep my two 6 v batteries charged, to give me 12v? I noticed one of my batteries has always pushed out some acid, leaving a mess on the battery rack. or should I be using a outside battery tender to keep the batteries to full 12v. If so what is a good battery tender, I should be using? Stan
Most high-end converters have a good three-stage charger built-in. All our motorhomes have been equipped with the Progressive Dynamics converter/chargers.
Seems to me to be an easier equation than connecting an external battery tender. And installing a disconnect switch at the batteries to remove all loads for longer-term storage.
For the Progressive Dynamics 9100 series power converters you can order the "Charge Wizard" which does an even better job and is around 30 dollars. It just plugs into an existing 9100 series.

We have the PD 9280 series and added the Remote Pendant to it this year. Got it off of eBay for $11 delivered (new). But I don't think it changes the capabilities of the charger. It does give a visual of which stage the charger is in and allows the owner to override the stages.

Keep in mind that no matter the charging source a battery bank will be limited to the capacity of the weakest battery......, I would have the batteries checked so you know what your working with.

That is not a good sign. That can be an indication that the cells are overfilled. But if the battery is hot to the touch or has bulging sides it may be failing.
