Battery tender

Is it necessary to buy a high end battery tender, or will a 12 V Harbor Freight cheep one work as well? I have one now that is a 3 amp charger plus battery maintainer. This is for my two 6 V RV batteries which is still 12 V. I need three more. One for my pickup that sits, until next spring, and a couple more for my tractors. I don't like to spend money unless I really need too. Any thoughts? Stan
