Bent and broke my key today.

So I pull the MH out from the pole barn to do some cleaning. Unlock the camper door leave open and the keys in lock. Go inside an fully open the awning to air out and dry if any moisture on awning. End of day close awning and close door. Keys are laying on the ground. The door key is broke off. Had no idea the front awning arm would be that close to hit the key ring and break off the door key if left open. Thankfully I could get the key out of the lock with needle nose pliers. Using the phone app my awning arm just clears the door by 1/2 inch. Come on Jayco you cannot give a little more room. Two new cut keys from Amazon $11

Add that to your "Notes to Self" list!

We were traveling with a couple of rigs to a rally way back and stopped at a rest area in NY state. One of the ladies in our group went to the wrong rv and broke her key off in her friends door by accident. We had to send my skinny wife thru a laundry chute with a Phillip's screwdriver to take the lock apart from the inside.

It's funny now but not then!

Learned that lesson years ago. Every vehicle I have has a hidden key. And I mean hidden way way underneath.

I do need to get a third spare key made. I have a set on a carabiner clipped to my pants, and the spare set is in the DW's purse. So, I guess we'd be in trouble if her purse is in the TT and my key lost or broken.

I suppose it's time to check out how easy is to pick my own trailers locks. Never thought about it, Thanks Rock!

+1 !

Two years ago I loaded up the utility trailer to trek all the stuff we use at our seasonal site. Drove two hours. Pulled up to the lot. No keys. Old Guy Disease. Dropped the trailer. Drove another 4 hours round trip with tolls.

Another pair of keys on the way thanks to Rock and Amazon. Never thought to look there for precut keys for it. One will go on my key ring that's always on me, and the other will go......oh heck....I'll probably forget where I put it.

When I traded my truck it took me a long time to find my hidden key box. Finally found it in the transfer case cross support. I now have the hidden locations in my phone in a secure app. Never touched it in 4 years. Gotta love old age.

My solution to the lost/broken key problem was to just get an extra set of keys and leave them on a ring in the console of my truck. That way I always have an extra set around for just in case.

BTW, if you use a pin lock, don't forget to put an extra one of those on the spare ring as well!

Just like another post said, my new keys work better than the original one.

Just did the same dang thing again. Cannot wait for someone to make an electronic lock like I put into my Pinnacle. I opened my awning to dry after washing MH. Left it open overnight. Next afternoon I went out unlocked door ( left keys in door) and closed awning and heard a bang. Yup awning closure snapped off key flush to door once again. Broke off flush but got it out with a pick. All the years RVing never had an awning that misses the door by a 1/4 inch. Just put a label below the touch screen as a reminder. Make sure you have a hidden spare key under your MH well hidden.

Wow, a twofer. I thought I was the only one to do that. Usually the first time is followed by "Darn". The second exclamation is more potent.
