Boondocking Power

How do I get power for lights and fridge (on propane) when not connected to shore power. I’ve tried turning on the main power but it won’t come on. If I have the truck ignition on then it works. I have a 29MVP.

It should work automatically, sounds like your battery is dead.

You shouldn’t need the generator to run the lights and fridge on propane or any other 12v item. The generator is to recharge the batteries or run 110v receptacle items in your camper. So your saying when not plugged in that none of your lights in your camper are working and your fridge isn’t even trying to switch to propane? If that is the case then you have a dead battery, blown 12v fuse in the service panel, or a blown main fuse somewhere else.

IIRC, you can use the "emergency start" button in the lower driver side dash (down by the parking brake) to temporarily link the chassis battery to the house battery. Start the chassis motor, let it run for a few minutes, then (while the motor is still running) have DW or another "assistant" depress that button while you try to fire the generator. That button is intended to work the other direction generally (using the house battery to help start the chassis), but in the instructions, it says you can use it this way.

ETA: If this doesn't work, you most likely have a blown fuse somewhere.

Like others have said, you most likely have a dead house battery (very common) or a blown fuse. FWIW, if the battery is that dead, you have likely caused permanent damage. I did that to the battery on my TT (actually my dealer did it), and the battery was never the same. I could never get it to take a "full" charge again.

Will the door steps work if the battery is dead?
Everything’s working f the truck key is on or running and the generator starts. Turn the key off and everything goes off. Where is the fuse panel? I know where the breaker panel is but not fuses.

Problem solved, battery checked fine and all fuses looked fine. The ground cable on the house battery to the frame had come loose. Simple fix. Let me give a plug for Rick’s RV Repair in Sevierville, TN. These guys are the best, have dropped in there twice with small issues and they took care of them on the spot and reasonable cost. They also did a remote repair to our heat pump late on a Friday afternoon. If you’re ever in the area and need some help try these guys.
