Brakes

Has anyone replaced the brakes on their E450? Wondering how many miles one can expect on the front and rears.

I haven't changed mine. However, my expectations are that they should last between 75,000~100,000 miles (based on what I have read from other E450 RV owners over the years). There are many factors though, primarily different driving styles where some like myself use tow/haul almost all of the time which provides for more engine braking even when not in the mountains and I try to plan my stops by coasting into a stop as much as possible. I expect for other drivers that the low expectations would be around 50,000 and the high as much as 125,000. ~CA

Thanks for the info. I have 68000 on mine, very little mountain driving. I got under there and from what i can see the pads are getting thin. I will probably replace the fronts. I would think the rear would last a lot longer.

If you take off a front wheel, there is an inspection area in the caliper that you can get a good view of the pads and like a tire tread, look up the pad thickness new and what you have now. I wouldn't be surprised if with very little mountain driving that you may easily have another 20,000 miles give or take, maybe more.

On the other hand, if you are a bit mechanical, imo, you can't really go wrong by changing the pads sooner than later for sure, and a good time to repack the wheel bearings as well. ~CA

I have 65,000 on mine so far. I inspect the front and back pads every time I rotate the tires (usually around 6,000 mile intervals). I have driven to all 49 states up and down mountains and flat roads. I have yet to need to replace mine.
But it really depends on your driving habits and conditions you drive in. Best to inspect as much as you can and look for wear and pad thickness.

35 to 45 dollars on Rock Auto for front pads, they also have kits that have rotor, pads and calipers for 500

49ish on mine - and they're squeaking. I'm gentle on them - honest! I suspect the plethora of mountains around here will contribute to their early demise.

Mine squealed from the day I bought it, the hotter they get the more they squeal, Ford says that's normal and not covered under warranty
