Bringing two kayaks with us
I think that it was here that i saw someone that made a kayak carrier out of a hitch mounted rack and two milk crates that the kayak bow would fit in and the crates were bolted to the rack. Has anyone else done this? The kayaks are just some 10ft off name brand so not too concerned with them getting scratched. I do not think there is any way to mount them on the roof of my 31ss

I mounted mine to the rear ladder using a kayak rack and straps

I wouldn't put them on the roof, you could damage something. They are pretty tough, if you are OK with nose down storage like you say, sounds like a plan as long as you can pass through spots w/o hitting them.

if your not opposed to roof mounting them on you tv Yakima(spelling) makes a roof mount system for trucks. I use that on my chevy 1500 and it fits two with plenty of room to spare. One person can mount the rack system and the kayaks (but be carefull otherwise you might have a few dents in the hood) it is very easy to get the yaks up there with two people.

Check out the solution this guy came up with using a cargo carrier, a double receiver and modified bike rack, pretty clever and a lot cheaper than the ready made versions.

Our solution was to get one of these.

We didn't have kayaks already though.....

I bought a $200 trailer from Harbor Freight and built my own mounting system for them on that. We started out with a paddle board and 2 kayaks and have now graduated to 4 kayaks. The good thing about the trailer is that it goes behind any vehicle we have so we didn't spend $$$ on only one vehicle that can take them. There is no lifting the kayak way up in the air over top of a car. Unloading is also a breeze as you just unhook it when you get home. It's so easy, my wife can do this on her own.

I place them so they are even with the back of the tool box. In a good many years and 2 different rigs, never had any problems.
Also to answer the unasked question, I do not tie them to the front bumper.
Been Maine to Fl with no problems.
