Unhappy Broken Latch to Tankless Water Heater Panel

We picked up our new 2016, 31 UL Precept yesterday. We spent 2 hours with our Jayco dealer reviewing all the workings of the coach and the one thing the dealer rep had a problem with was the plastic latch that holds the outside panel in place for the tankless water heater. We left the dealer, drove to our campsite and the first time my husband opened the panel to turn on the water heater, the plastic latch broke right off in his hand. We are trying to MacGyver it back in place...any suggestions? thanks so much!!

Break out the plastic tab completely from the springy thing it is connected to. Then slip something thru the hole like a paperclip or small nail to hold the cover on to get home.

If this is not pretty solid I would shut down the heater, remove cover and put it in storage so you don't lose it.

FWIW - my cover does not line up perfectly with exhaust pipe of heater so the cover kinda sticks out a little extra making the latch hard to fasten. The problem is that trim strip below the cover on side of coach. The cover is slightly too long and sits on the top of trim strip and that makes the cover sit high in it's opening. Maybe if we all have warranty claims for this Jayco will redesign how things fit??

Good Luck

Duct tape will get you you to the dealer for a replacement latch. Just don't lose the cover.

I used a bolt, lock washer and nut. The plastic ones break every time.

Our WH door had that el cheapo plastic tab latch, too. When we recently got our Greyhawk back from the dealer after some warranty work, I noticed they had replaced it with a much more substantial metal latch --- and it was not even on my work list. Wasn't a major thing, but I appreciated the thought.

Camping stores sell these spring loaded/metal latches. My plastic one broke also. Pretty easy fix. Good suggestions above on keeping it attached until you get the part.
CONGRATULATIONS..............enjoy

Our dealer replaced ours with a metal latch. Our plastic one wasn't broken, but they replaced it anyway, just because they have had problems with the plastic ones.
