Catalytic Converter Lock

Everyone may want to think about get this installed on their MH. I just purchased one for mine because I'm hearing stores every day about the theft going on. It's Called the Cat Clamp, Catalytic Converter Lock, USA Made (419)478-1313. They are very ingeniously thought out and look like a good deterrent. If Thieves see this under your MH, chances are they will move on!

I used a $20 electric engraver to put my name and "this is stolen" on the shell. Sprayed it with orange high temp. Got that from the local metals recycler.

I have the red Cat Clamp on my Excursion and 4Runner. The red one has max pipe OD of 3". The silver one they have is for commercial vehicles with a pipe OD larger than 3". My E450 class C pipe is larger so I will need to get the commercial one. Luckily, I store my RV at the side of my house, but I will eventually get one installed.

In several states, you have to present your driver license, have your picture taken and the vehicle you drive to the scrapper is also photographed. So that's why in my state, the name on the converter better match the one on the D/L or the police are immediately notified and you're turned away...and your picture was already taken while you were sitting at the desk. So, yeah, they can steal it if they want it bad enough, but good luck turning it into dollars without a quick ride to jail.

This is a bit like buying a lotto ticket. The chance of having it happen to you is one in sixty five million and when it does your insurance is probably going to cover all but your deductible.

Muckinfuss, I don't think that the kind of person that steals cat converters is going to take it to a buyer that plays by the rules....just saying.....

I was the victim of this crime in July 2021. My locked and fenced and lighted storage yard was hit by catalyst thieves who cut a hole in the fence, removed the cats, and were gone before anyone noticed. When the thefts were over four of the the seven gasoline powered vehicles being stored in the lot had their catalysts stolen.

I discovered that my rig was one of the ones hit when I came to pick up my rig for a weekend trip. My insurance company DID pay for the catalyst and the installation, etc. but they could not compensate my family for the missed trip, and the lost peace of mind.

I too purchased the Cat Clamp, and I have nothing but good reviews for this product. It does look like it will stump some thief and just slowing them down enough for them to skip your vehicle is a win in my book. Then if we can get laws that stop scrappers from making money on the stolen cats the problem should all but go away.
