CB Radio. Yes or No?

Thinking about installing a CB in my 2016 Greyhawk. Are they useful?
My thoughts were, that I would be able to bi pass traffic problems,
get weather alerts, and use some cool CB lingo. Lol. Thoughts?

Don't currently have a CB in our rig. Did have one in our old Class C, and it was a constant source of entertainment for the boys as they were growing up. They were usually rolling in the aisle at some of the comments of the truckers. Can be a bit salty at times, but the boys were in tears they laughed so hard. I'll probably eventually install one again in this rig. I have one in the Jeep for group 4X4 adventures. They can be handy. A lot of Jeep folk also use HAM setups for longer distances and emergencies. If you know how to use it on the highway, it can be a help.

I think they are entertaining - although I gave mine up about 20 years ago. I get the impression that very few RVer's use them any more whereas 20 years ago (pre cell phone) they were almost standard equipment.

They are pretty useless as emergency equipment - you can never reach someone when you want to. And because of limited range, usually by the time you hear about a problem on the road - you're there and can't take an alternate route.

Personally, for avoiding traffic problems I don't think you can do better than WAZE.

The CB can be lots of fun but Google Maps on your phone will do a much better job of warning you of upcoming traffic problems.

My opinion....if I were traveling frequently with another RV'er or a group I would have one in the TV. Turn the squelch down to where you don't hear all the interference, find a relatively quiet channel, and you have a way to visit with your traveling buddies in close proximity to you. If full timing, I would have one also...you don't have to turn it on till you get in a traffic jam on the road, then you may hear a trucker talking about what's holding the traffic up, etc. Also good in bad weather or icy bridges up ahead (if you can tolerate the potty mouths). Currently I carry the handheld family channel FM radios for help in backing the RV up or having communications with the grandkids when we are out in the boonies.

Our CB is installed only for long trips and is usually turned off. It is primarily there as a 'just in case' backup to cellphones. We've been through places where there is traffic on the road, but we have no cell connection.

Thankfully, we haven't been in a problem situation where either the cellphone or the CB was needed... yet.
