Changing the RV electric plug to the pedestal.

As all things happen, so your RV 30 Amp RV power cord plug to the pedestal fails.

Do you change the entire cord or do you change the plug to the pedestal..???

What is the best plug you would install on your cord to the pedestal...???

If the cord was several years old, I would replace the entire cord. Really not sure if just the plug can be replaced but since you can get replacement ends for regular extension cords at HD/Lowes you can probably get just the plug online or at a RV retailer.

I would take pictures or good notes when taking the old apart if that's your chosen route to make sure I got the wires in the right spot.

If my plug failed I would not have a problem replacing just the end as long as the cord was undamaged and still nice and flexible. When connecting a new end that pulls such high current you would definitely need to make sure the contact clamps were as tight as possible. Also wouldn't hurt to check the tightness now and then. A loose connection would be a nightmare.

One of my reasons to just replace the end is that you would have to tighten the connections at the end that connects to the coach if you installed a new cable so why not just do it where it is easy to get to.

Just wondering, are you sure it's your plug that's bad on a 2016 model rig?

There have been many reports by others that the female side of the pedestal outlet in some campgrounds are really worn out, due to constant plugging in by other campers, which affects how tight/loose your plug might be. Could that be the problem?

Plug is super easy to change. I did one camping in Florida last month. Lowes had a crappy one to get me through the weekend, ordered a Camco on Amazon that arrived on Monday and swapped it out again.

Takes 5 minutes, a screwdriver and pliers to strip the cable sheathing back. You can search on YouTube, it's very easy.

I would purchase and carry it with me. It could save a trip to just an inconvenience.
