Charging battery

Just got a chance to plug the motorhome in to shore power. Will the battery still charge if i keep the main power switch off.

No. You need to keep the main switch on for the charger to work.

Ok thanks i will turn it on. I was thinking it might still work since the electric steps still work with the main off.

I am not sure exactly how the steps are wired but from what I can tell, they work off the chassis battery and not the house battery.

My Greyhawk 31FS charges the battery when plugged into shore power with the main switch turned "OFF". There seems to be a debate on this here, so all I can say is test it. Your volt meter wont lie.

I may be mixing things up. To charge the battery when driving, you need to have it on. I thought it was for shore power too. I will test it this weekend and let you know what I learn. Thank you for pointing this out.

To close this out, I did the test. It does charge the battery with the main switch off.

I plugged the Greyhawk into my standard garage 110v outlet yesterday, but was unable to get power to the coach. I've been able to charge the batteries etc. on all my previous rigs. Am I doing something wrong?

Where is the main power fuse located on a Class C Greyhawk?

Trace the positive line off the rigs positive battery terminal (not the engine battery). There may be an inline fuse anywhere from 6 to 18 inches from the terminal. Just a guess. On an old Jamboree we had the battery was located in a box under the first step just inside the door. There was an inline fuse located outside the battery box and could only be seen and accessed by laying on the ground underneath and to the rear of the step.
I am guessing, but perhaps something similar?

Just an update I tested with the volt meter the coach battery charges with the main switch off and on, however the engine battery does not charge either way. Im gonna have to order a battery tender to pug in to the cig lighter I guess. Thanks again

Nascar 64 are you saying it will charge the engine battery. I didnt get any voltage change on it when hooked up to shore power. Like i did to the house battery. Unless maybe it is a very small amount amps to the engine.

If it is like my 2015 Redhawk, the engine battery would only charge from the Power Converter if you had your ignition key turned on.
