Charging house batteries

I have a 2017 Seneca and I was reading that the battery’s disconnect switch has to be on to charge the house batteries while being connected to shore power.
I always turn it off while in storage and connect to 115 volt.

My 2014 charges the house batteries when plugged in regardless of the whether the master battery switch is on or off. I checked with a voltmeter to make sure shortly after I got my unit to make sure. Unless Jayco changed how Senecas are wired over the years I would think yours should be the same.

My 2018 m2 chassis charges coach batteries with the disconnect switch on or off, had it plugged in all winter with the switch in the off position

On my 2014 Seneca both my house batteries and the chassis batteries can charge off a power source via the device known as my Battery Isolation Manager.

When charging power is available from the onboard converter the BIM gives charging preference to the house batteries. When on the road the engine alternator charges the chassis batteries and the BIM allows the house batteries to also charge.

I know they were on the Senecas but not sure whether they were installed on the other Jayco motorhome lines.

I guess my Melbourne doesn't have the battery isolator thing.
I keep the camper on shore power when parked. If more than a few weeks parked, I have to charge the Cab battery separately.

That's correct. You can install a Trik-L-Start, it will allow your chassis battery to charge when the coach is plugged into shore power.

Also, check for a disconnect switch under the dashboard above the gas pedal area. I believe some Melbournes had a cutoff switch in that area. Check your manual.

And the BIM works if the Coach battery disconnect is on or off.

Same with our 2015 - (has the BIM)

Look for the round override switch on your dash - that is part of the BIM system, It will allow an override to join the Chassis/House Batteries for starting boost.
