Check Engine Light

I have a new 2018 Greyhawk 29ME. It's on a Ford E450 Chassis. The check engine light has been on since I bought this RV on 16April2019. No one will look at it, not even the Ford dealers. What am I to do with this thang?! I bought it at Camper Corral in Madison, MS. They will work on the camper part, but not the van. So now I'm afraid to take it anywhere cause it might be a serious problem. Advise please

Go to Walmart and buy a OBD scanner and plug it into the port at the base of the dashboard. This way, at least you'll know what code is being thrown to find out if it's a major issue.

Go to a local national chain auto parts store, they will do a scan for free and then tell you what code its throwing and what it means. Some of them rent the tool for free if you can't drive there. Call Jayco and explain your problem with the dealer not working on the chassis, I am sure this is normal for most dealers not having trained mechanics to do that type of work, you will have to call around to Ford dealers and find one that works on those trucks.

The rule of thumb with a CEL is if it's not a flashing CEL and it's running smooth, it's nothing serious. A flashing CEL will usually, but not always, send the vehicle into "limp mode". A solid CEL but running rough can be serious with continued driving, but is often just a misfiring spark plug or something else easy.

As said, go get the codes read. No one can offer even an armchair diagnosis without the codes.

Find a shop with medium and heavy duty truck experience. They are out there. Might have to do a bit of Googling to find one. CELs are emissions related. By federal law emissions are covered longer than the base factory warranty. You may get Ford to pay for work done by a non-Ford dealer. Better yet, call Ford and ask them where you should take it. And call Jayco directly. They also should be able to tell you where to take your truck.

Doesn't your Jayco dealer have a place to send you? This can't be their first rodeo with one of these.

Could be as simple as a loose gas cap.

What Sundancer said. Most chain auto parts stores will loan you one (even pull the code for you) for free. Advance Auto and O'Reilley auto does here in Kansas City. You could have an ABS code which some of the cheaper OBD readers will not read.

Been there and done that... No help at all from Ford, Jayco, nor the warranty. Don't even have 2,000 miles on this than. Already replaced the gas cap. No change. Code was 1100 I think.

No, Jayco and Ford was no help at all...NONE!

Unless I'm missing something here, your Ford chassis and drivetrain should still be in warranty. A call to your Ford regional headquarters should get you some assistance.

Without a confirmed code, no one can help you here. Either go get it scanned at a auto supply or buy a scanner, then search on the web to see what the code it is. Only then can you determine how serious it is, and if you're going to fight with Ford/Jayco or just take it to a local shop to be fixed.

Everything else here is speculation....

Need the code to really know the issue. Most part stores have them and will check it for you. Also ask around work, lots of people I know have a bluetooth OBDii adaptors, including myself. They are cheap, and handy and you can see all kinds of data. Use it with your smartphone. You need an app. I like TorquePro, but it only works with android. But there are others.

The adapter I have is by BAFX Products. I thought i paid around $15 for mine.

You've got three choices, continue to drive with the CEL on, find a Ford dealership willing to pull the code for you or go back to that auto parts store and have them tell you the exact code.
