Chirping Wheel Liners

So - my wheel liners chirp. I find it highly annoying. I’d just remove them, but the wheels underneath are, well, ugly.

I tried putting electrical tape over the teeth of the liners - it did nothing at all. I read somewhere that electrical tape helps fix the issue, but maybe they put electrical tape on the whole lip of the wheel and not the teeth of the liner? I’m not sure, I suppose I’ll try that next.

Anybody else have a solution for chirping wheel liners?

Only thing that works for me is to take them off and clean the brake dust off the rim before putting them back on. Lasts until they get dusty again.

I removed mine and painted the wheels.

Years ago, my cousin had a 1986 Chevy Camaro with the 15" steel wheels and those wide chrome trim rings. They would chirp as you described. We ran strips of self adhesive foam weather stripping between the wheel and the trim ring between the teeth. It solved the problem.

I don't know if it would work on the wheel liners. But as cheap as the weather stripping is, it may be worth a try.

I’m going to line the wheel with electrical tape and spray the liner (where it comes in contact with the wheel) with this spray paint electrical tape type stuff. Lets see how that works.
