That pretty much then relegates you to buying two tires because you have probably stressed the single tire on that axle. My guess is that if you do that you may blow that tires someplace later after replacing the previously blown tire.

I did the same installation. the tire fits perfectly under there. I built the carrier bars out of 1/4 steel angle iron and fitted a heavy duty tire hoist to lift it up and down. Works great. I am glad I haven't had to use it yet.

it might but it will smell. you have plenty of space underneath between the main frame rails to mount a tire in front of the rear bumper. The spare fits in there perfectly

Hi Fork in the road,

It looks like we have very similar vehicles. This was an earlier thread on the same spare tire question that I added to this summer. Thought I'd post the link here as it seems it might be relevant to your search for possibilities. I've been very happy with my solution.

The issue isnt having a tire, it's getting the tire off. It's really hard to break those big lug nuts with a 4way lug wrench. I bought a 1400 ft lb Milwalkee impact cordless from Northern Tool. It slays those lug nuts!. Also, pack a sledgehammer to break the rim off the studs. They fit pretty tight. Use the hydraulic Jack's to lift the camera off the ground and block under the axle once up. I'm going to weld up an extension for my reece hitch. I'm going to put a T going straight up to mount a spare. I'm heading to Alaska in the spring to ride Side by Sides.

It might fit, but I agree with the person who said the odor might be a bit overpowering. Especially in warm weather.

It'll be heavy.
And you'll need to find room for a big jack (unless you use levelers). And an impact driver.

Ok so I bought the used ford rim from ebay. Should I reuse the metal valve stem or do those need to be trashed like the rubber ones?? If so is there a certain recommended new stem??

Make sure it fits your vehicle. There are numbers on the vehicle rim that will help with match. Rims can be slightly off.

I did before ordering and after receiving it. Any thoughts about the stem?

Our tire shop always installs new stems with new tires. You could ask yours to put on a new metal stem before they mount the tire. Metal ones are great, as long as the rubber grommets/seals are in good shape.

Between 2015 and 2018 we had a gas class A, before a long trip to Canada I
went to a truck tire shop and bought a good used 19" tire and my MH had a
storage bin on the right rear large enough to fit the tire. I did have a blow out
in Montana and I was hoping the tow truck would be able to swap the tire on to
my rim, but I ended up having to be towed (AAA) to the next town to a tire shop.

As for buying a used steel rim, google RV wrecking yards and I know there are
a few places around where the RV's are built that buy up the previous years stock
of parts from the manufactures.

We ordered ours on amason. It is a curt #310006, does not come with spare tire mounting bolts, also ordered hitch brace to control hitch movement.

I would have had the same concern about being able to drive with only one tire on the back dully except I experienced that. When I purchased my 30Z new I asked if everything had been checked and was told yes. After driving over 100 miles home I found the inside rear tire to have no air at all. So yes, it can be done.

Good Morning,

Unfortunately we will be unable to provide you any information on where to install a spare tire. That is because it would be considered an aftermarket component and we do not advise on aftermarket products. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Because of liability.. You're mounting it on the chassis, FORD would be the go to source.
