Spare tire 24B

Ok , wife didn't want me to install spare tire under camper due to Warranty issues or removal on tank if needed. So here what I did:
Purchased
1 c13006 curt wheel carrier Amazon 85.00 for rear hitch.
1 spare tire from walmart , same make as what it on camper 113.00
1 rim from Ebay used 69.00 web page says they have 9 in stock
1 hitch tightener to keep noise down on the hitch connection Amazon 12.00
1 Spare wheel cover 19.00
All for under 300.00 Still waiting on Rim ( hope it's in good shape ) Ebay page says in great shape, we'll see in a few days.
We do not pull a car at this time, but when we do I'll just place the spare in the car. Over all I hope to save some money having my own spare if or when I call roadside service . Not sure what they will charge to supply one. We fell better having one onboard.
Thanks for all the info on spare tires.

The rim I purchased off eBay was perfectly round but not in the best of shape. I had to wire brush some rust off it and repaint it and put a high psi valve stem on it, Not a big deal.

And not all roadside will supply you with the tire you’re better off having your own.

Class C spare tire?

Why did RV manufacturers stop including them?

The obvious is to cut down on co$t! The 2nd reason is some of these conversions don’t allow Room for a spare.

Out first RV had a spare on the rear bumper...29' Eagle and I carried a 120v impact wrench with sockets for lugs and tire mount. The second RV was super c Seneca on the Kodiak Chassis and i carried the impact and just a tire in the belly storage and no rim and a bottle jack. New Seneca on Freightliner I have not decided what I will do yet. We have road service to use primarily and had to use that once with a blowout...waited 3 hours on a sunday. We used the level jacks with wood to lift the wheel. I will at a minimum keep a tire in the belly....roadside may not be able to get a tire on a weekend
any Seneca guys with a freightliner have a roof ladder?...please PM me

Class C spare tires

Had a used 2000 Tioga that came with a spare mounted on the back above the bumper and previous owners had another in the basement storage compartment. Came in handy in our first year with it, a blowout and another tire with a big bubble on the inside, same trip, we were rookies, hadn't done a thorough check. Next was a used 2007 Greyhawk, no spare, no problems, and now in a 2015 Greyhawk, bought new, still no spare, no problems...knock, knock! Always on our checklist!

Received rim from Ebay, had to clean it up some but in good shape. Took it to walmart today and had it mounted and balanced for 13.00 , Placed it on a curt carrier in rear of motorhome. Still waiting on tire cover and hitch tightener ( due in tomorrow from Amazon). Hope I never need to use it , but nice to know I have one now. Just want to try and save a few bucks if or when roadside service needed.

Because of the liability.
How many "average RV owners" know how to SAFELY jack up am RV? How many know how to crack a lug nut put on with 150 pounds of torque?

How many know how to pull the inner wheel off the dually?

I know this is pretty controversial and for those of you who won't travel without a spare - good for you!

I know how to do the above and I plan on pulling over, crackin' open cold beers until road side assistance arrives.

Ha...

I'm with you on that, although I can fix anything, the one thing I've never done is pull the inner wheel on a dually (never owned one).

...and at this point in my life, that's one thing I don't feel like learning now either..

So, if I can't get a flat tire to at least hold some air with some Fix-A-Flat, Slime and my air compressor, and limp to the next repair facility... I'm with you, I'll be cracking beers (since I have a bathroom ), and I'll be waiting for one of the roadside assistance dudes to show up!

Yup, just installed my spare tire mount under rear of our 29xk, fit it above C-channel frame which raised spare up to exact height i needed for clearance and it fits in there perfectly. Had to shorted one channel piece of retractable mount i received to squeeze it in there, also had to replaced piece of angle iron to hold black tank in with a piece of flat stock. I will then just put a couple of small welds where spare tire carrier touches frame to keep from any movement and done.

I used double hitch for spare tire carry and tow bar. I have front hitch which I can move spare tire from the back to the front.

I have a spare set up done under frame at rear , but it is a steel ford wheel
and I have the aluminum option wheels.
I heard that the profile on the lug nuts were different for the steel wheels
than on aluminum.
The original ford nuts are called swivel nuts.
Anyone know a used source if they are needed.

And a spare tire to match from TireRack here.

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...omCompare1=yes

Need to get them mounted and balanced at Les Schwab.

I plan to mount the wheel under the rig just forward of the gray tank and behind the rear axle. It looks like there is space. I plan to either buy this

https://norcoind.com/bal/products/co...-a-spare.shtml

or custom weld something myself to accomplish this undercarriage mounting. This is probably going to be a pain to do whichever way I choose to mount it...there are always challenges with RV's.

Then it'll just involve a breaker bar and a 6 to 12 ton bottle jack if I need to change a tire. Ya, it's heavy and a pain, but at least I'll have options. Or if I'm not up to the work at that moment, I'll call for roadside assistance to do the grunt work for me.

Appreciate you blazing the trail (even if you weren't the first).

The issue with the eBay link is that it is of your order and not of the item. Here is the item (3 years later it's still there and available!!!)
https://www.ebay.com/itm/332386940283

Spare tire and suspension mods are my top priority to our 'new-to-us' 2019 Redhawk 24B.

Thanks again!!!

I bought a rim from that ebay seller a number of years ago. Was a good deal, only paid $69 back then. Free Fedex shipping was included. I received it in 2 days.

My 2005 (I bought it used) came with a full size spare and tire mounted underneath the back. I figured all had one. Surprised that there are so many models that do not.

Is this a manufacturer savings thing?
