Cleaning mildew off awning

Any recommendations for cleaning mildew off my awning hasn’t been on there but a month or so. Tried using camcorder awning cleaner doesn’t work.
Has anyone used a pressure washer, is it to many psi.

You will always get a bit of mildew on the awning. As they are great at collecting water, while closed.

I use are product called "Spray Power" by Crown. It does a good job. I spray it on full strength, roll up the awning and let it sit of 30 minutes or so. Un roll it, use the carwash brush, and hose it off. Sometimes I have brushed it before rolling it up. It is not perfect but really good.

I also use the same product to clean black streaks and bugs off the front cap.

I have never used the pressure washer, as I do not want to risk it.

Thanks, don’t want to use bleach.

Bleach may leave some undesirable results.

I had seen on youtube how you mix bleach and water and brush it on the awning and roll it up for twenty minutes than open it and rinse it and let it dry. I tried it on our fifth wheel last year and was surprised at the results. It looked like it did when it was new.

It's ok to use a pressure washer if you use the right tip or adjustment.

A concentrated jet is obviously a bad idea, but most have wide spray options which won't do any harm... especially if you stand back a little.

Another useful trick is to get a right-angle adapter for the spray head... saves you getting a crick in the neck when you spray the underside of the awning...

Dawn or other mild soap and water. Works great. Our Carefree manufacturer warns against any detergents and they say never to scrub.

We always struggle with this, because the awning is so high on our Seneca. I've wondered about the new product that is advertised on TV for cleaning houses and windows.

Can someone point me to the Youtube video mentioned at the start of this thread. The spray, roll up and let sit for 20 minutes? That sounds workable for us.

Thank you in advance for that link and also for bringing up this thread.

We use pool store bleach in a pump sprayer and it is a most excellent easy job. Just wear white clothing and eye protection. We do a rinse from the hose after we see the mold/mildew is gone (a matter of minutes). The bleach is about $5 for 2.5 gal in our neck of the woods and the remainder we use for its intended purpose as pool shock.

Everyone needs to go back and read post #4 by 2008Seneca, "Get some Totally Awesome cleaner from the dollar store. Cheap and easy. " No pressure washer needed, no bleach needed, no special things to buy. Stuff is cheap and works great. Also works great at removing black streaks from RV.

Always good to have options. I like bleach because we always have it on hand with the pool and it biodegrades quickly to table salt and water. What's on the label of the dollar store stuff?

I use my pressure washer with the white delicate nozzle. Even a few inches from your hand doesn't hurt so its not going to hurt the awning.

I dilute bleach down 1:5 in a spray bottle. Spray it. Roll it up. Rinse it off after a couple of beers. Cheap and works great.

Just did mine with Jomax house cleaner and mixed according to the light soil clean up. Had it mixed already from doing the house and agree that the Camco awning cleaner did nothing. It is mixed with bleach which helps it tackle the mold.

Got mine cleaned right up. I had a green dark black streak across several feet of the black awning that this stuff with a car brush took care of in short order. I did not let it sit on there long.

Even my pressure washer would not get it off until I hit it with this stuff.

If you really want it clean use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It used to take me about an hour with one of the small erasers. Now I found a Mr Clean magic eraser mop with a 12'' foam eraser head and takes about 20 minutes. Bring a towel to wipe it off after cleaning.
