Coax and Composite Video Connections

On my 2021 Redhawk 24B there is a coax and composite video connection coming out of the wall behind the TV. Both were not hooked up. I'm trying to figure out where the source for each is. I assume the coax connects to the TV cable input in the bay with the shore power cable. Is that correct? Where does the composite connect?

I'm thinking antenna...green light on when using air antenna and not cable.

I did not know these RVs had an Over The Area (OTA) Antenna. How do you use the OTA antenna with the TV? I'd love to be able to get local channels when traveling.

This is just a guess, a supposition - but on our greyhawk the coax goes to the shore power cable bay, like yours.


I have RCA connectors on the door side of the RV and there is a terminal plate in the bay closet to my passenger door.


I have never bothered to trace these, but I was guessing they may have had something to do with either -- feeding an outside TV, or perhaps a connection to an external satellite dish/antenna/something.


Cable tracers are really inexpensive at harbor-freight. [ Or build one. ]
The signal distribution unit in our greyhawk is behind the panel behind our TV.

I did figure out the coax cable (at least part of it). There is a panel in a cabinet over the doorway that has a coax cable input (labeled TV). A button next to the input appears to turn the coax input to the TV from the antenna to this input panel. Whenever the button is pushed and the green light is on the feed to the TV is from the antenna (CrowCross' statement now makes sense to me).

Still need to understand what the input to the TV coax is if the button is not pushed and the green light is off. Also, still need to figure out the source to the composite input to the TV. More sleuthing required...

My 25r has a cable connection outside in the same bay as my shore power cable

That's for cable input

I use it for my DirecTV dish input,but to do that you need to sepperate the two cables at the Power Antenna plate since DirecTV needs dedicated lines and can't be split

I'd assume the video cables go to your stereo to run DVDs to your roof speakers, if you have them,then connect to your TV

Was your owner's manual any help? The Jayco manual might have some information about what you are looking for, or you could look at the website of the component's manufacturer.

From the manual:
Power Injector (if so equipped): The power injector button located on the wall plate, switches between your cable/satellite signal and the over-the-air (OTA) HDTV signals. When the button on the wall plate is turned ON, it lights green and interrupts the satellite/cable in- put to the TV. It allows the OTA HDTV signals from the outside roof antenna to your TV. When the button is turned OFF, satellite/cable signals are resumed again on your TV.

The satellite/cable signal would be from the campground coax connection.

Mine's older but I suspect the process is the same.


First, I flip up the TV to get access to the booster, and turn it on. Green light is on. Then I change the TV source to "TV", run Setup and scan for Channels. When scanning, I pick "Antenna", not "Cable".


Our Jack antenna is on a spinner - the dial is on our roof near the front. If I'm in an unknown area, I usually rotate the antenna 90* and re-scan. Then I pick the direction that pulled in the most channels.

The manual was a little help and does describe the use of the roof antenna. I am able to get local channels on the TV via the antenna and coax cable. I haven't been able to determine where the composite video cable runs to and the manual doesn't mention it at all. The only place I can figure it would run is to the head unit in the coach. I'll need to investigate more when I get the rig back this weekend (it's in storage right now).

Anyone with a 2021 Redhawk 24B have a composite video cable going to their TV? Or, do any of the other model year 24Bs have a composite video cable? It was coiled up in the compartment under the U-dinette and not connected to the TV.

Video cables probably go from it to the TV for playing DVDs

It's a Sony VAX-AX8000. I looked through the manual and there are no composite connections on the head unit and no ability to insert or play DVDs via the unit.

I'm now thinking it must run up to the cabinet over the door where the antenna coax connects. There is a hole in the cabinet like cables would be fed through but I can't see if there is anything behind that panel. I may try to take off the coax plate and see if I can see if the composite cable is routed up there. I'll report back what I find.

Wow! At least they're plunking in decent stuff these days. On our 2016, the Jensen head unit can play DVDs and the Riverside branded AV signal switch can route the picture to either TV.



But it's useless to us: they're standard DVDs when I'm used to Blu-Ray, the sound comes out of all of the ceiling speakers even if you just want to watch the rear TV, and having to walk up to the cockpit (or aim the remote that way) to futz with the movie is silly.


If you find a RCA composite jack on the outside I'd guess you could quickly hook up a DVD player to feed a signal in and see if any input on the TV works.

In older TVs the tv connector either in the bed room or the living room used a combination plate with a light , push button locking type, ans 12 volt cig lighter type power source. If you pushed the button in the light came on an it powered the antenna power setupso the tv got better reception. But if connected to an exterior source it interfered that was the reaso to be able to switch it on and off. If the source feeds more than one location it will not work for sat tv. A satellite requires point to point termination.

The "button" is the power booster and is only to be used for over the air TV. If you turn it on with Sat or cable the signal does not get through.

Can you post a picture of the connection? A composite video only connection seems rather odd for a couple of reasons. 1) In a 2021 coach supplying a composite video connection is very outdated; HDMI would be much more expected. 2) A video composite connection with no LR audio connections to accompany it seems very odd. As for the coax connection, is there any coax connected to the back of the TV? I would think there should be a coax to provide either OTA or Cable to the television, again as said in other response depending on the antenna booster push button (green LED means OTA power booster is on).
