Colorado mountain driving

Recently I drive through I-70 west of Denver my question is at what rpm are safe to climb them mountains asking because talking to a co- worker I was telling him I was tacking up to 4200 rpm on most mountains he said that's kind of high so asking what is the recommended Rpms to try to stay at??? I don't want to blow a head gasket or my engine next time I'm out there!

What type of engine, gas or diesel? Where is the reline? Most gas engine peak horse power is around 4000 rpm.

Gas V-10 and there is no redline it goes up to 6000

Per my Google-Fu, that V10 creates peak torque and HP at around 4100 RPM's. That means you should feel free to run that engine at that RPM for as long as needed to get up the next hill or whatever.

The Ford 6.8 V-10 lives just fine at the higher RPMs. The engine's computer will cut off the fuel if you try to rev it beyond its design redline. Just keep good oil in it, change it at the recommended intervals, and keep an eye on engine temps in extreme climates.

My last Class C had that engine and it never even hiccupped in the 9 years we had it. And we worked it hard! Mobil 1 full synthetic after break-in, Motorcraft filters, and I changed it about every 5,000 miles.
