Depends on what you are gonna cover it with. I see a lot of people in our north country that cover their home A/C units with a tarp or plastic. BAD IDEA, unless you dont like money. If it cant breathe itll hold moisture in it and rot out. Then its replacement time. Your home A/C unit, if it located on a side of the house where there is a lot of snowfall, best thing is to put a unit sized piece of plywood on it and a brick to hold it down. This way it can still breathe and not fill up the inside with snow.
Your RV A/C, I dont think I'd worry too much about it. The top is already covered so it won't fill up with snow.
