Cummins QD8000 Auto Start/Stop

Does anyone know about how long it should take for the genset to shut itself off after the A/Cs have shut down when on Auto mode? Mine seems to just keep running long after the A/C has hit it's setpoint.

Depending upon which control you have, it could be waiting for the thermostat to demand power again to re-start the compressor, rather than start the generator every time the temp gets above the set point. The mandatory compressor-off period may be adjustable, as may be the off time for the generator to avoid that re-start every few minutes.

It also senses battery voltage and will start when the battery is low so it is also
recharging the batteries after the a/c shuts off.

Thanks for the replies. I noticed it, one night, staying in a parking lot. The rig was still warm from a 7-hour drive and the A/Cs kicked on to cool it down (It was in the low 60's outside). The A/C had been off for about 20 minutes, but the set still ran. I just talked to Cummins-Onan and we're going to look into possibly a software issue.

thanks again!

I don't have my manuals handy, but I swear I remember reading something about a minimum run time for the generator when it starts up in auto mode. I thought it was somewhere around 20 minutes.

"Onan gensets have a minimum run time of 10 minutes."

More details about various run times found on page 5; https://power.cummins.com/sites/defa.../900-0541B.pdf

I haven't gotten a chance to try it, yet, but I have talked to the folks that made the Energy Commander 30, that's in my rig. Over the phone, away from the rig, he came up with two, possibly-related, issues. 1) The firmware on my unit is quite old 2) The minimum run time might be something other than 10 min.

The issue with the old firmware is what we refer to as the minimum run time is labeled something like Stop @ v in the interface, which is why I missed it, looking through the settings as I thought it had to do with Voltage rather than Variable, so I didn't touch that setting.

I should have the rig home, later this week; I'll update whether or not, 'that' fixes it.
