For you tech geeks out there. I installed an app called OBD Fusion on a 7 year old Samsung Tablet and it works very well. The dash is fully customizable, there are probably over a hundred different PID's that can be accessed. Here is a screenshot of the dash I designed. I wasn't using the tablet anymore, and I had to purchase an obdii device to plug in, and the app. There are versions for Android and iPhone. It runs well on both. I have found that trying to keep the Engine Load below 82% helps prevent the transmission from downshifting. Displays can either be all digital or analog, or a combination like mine. The V10 puts out a lot of info, just need a way to access it. It will also do diagnostics, display trouble codes and keep trip logs. It displays info like a Scanguage, but this solution is less costly if you have an older device just sitting around. Here's a link to the app if you want more info. in searching for a "obd " device, it is somewhat confusing, (or maybe I'm over thinking it)
can you provide the device you used or purchased?
I see them from $9 to $99 , any suggestions on which one?\

I wonder if I can load that app onto my Garmin Fusion in the dash? Shouldn't be a problem given that the tablet is Android based. That would be COOL!

I don't know if you can run the app on a smart radio. As i said i have it on an old Samsung Tablet, and on my iPhone. If you can install the app from the play store and connect to a obd II device, maybe it would work. There are wifi and bluetooth versions of the obd II. I use obdfusion as well, and I have an android based radio that it works well on. Whether or not it will work on other android based radios, I am not sure of. You could always try to install it as the lite version is free if I remember correctly. ~CA

It's been a while since I played with OBDII adapters, but back then the cheap ones ($20 and under) were predominately called "ELM327 Clones".


ELM327 was the name of a chip, produced by a US company I think. The chip did not have anti-piracy features and was copied by off shore companies in large numbers.


These clones will usually work, but might also lack some capabilities of the more expensive ones.


What I did was purchase a cheap one, just to test my vehicle. Once I was convinced it was all going to work for me, I paid for a more expensive one.

The basic app is $5 as i remember. You could try it and see if it would work on your android radio. If it does, then in order to get all the FORD PIDS that can be displayed, such as Trans Temp and others, you have to purchase the Ford Enhanced Pids. I think they were $9.99

The most beneficial aspect for me is having a Transmission Temperature Gauge, plus on mine (yours may be different being newer) the MPG readout and the trip computer functions are useful. The transmission temp by itself was enough for me though to get the app and adapter. ~CA

Ya the real milage sounds great. Also saw some trip info it saves

I assume this won't tie into the Soundstream system
But I have an old Android Tablet myself

There are actually at least 100 items you can monitor. The ones displayed are just the ones I chose. You can set yours up however you like. It can also read and clear trouble codes, and provide other diagnostic info. Also provides graphs, charts and maps showing performance.

I haven't counted, but I would suggest hundreds of items, maybe a thousand... in my usage I try not to duplicate the dash gauges and instead add gauges I don't already have (ie: trans temp). For others interested, you can add square, round, overlapping (like half circle), digital and other design gauges along with different colors and redlines etc.. ~CA

I know the Ford add on is required for Transmission Temp. It includes PIDs for Antilock brakes system, Instrument Panel Control module, Powertrain Control module.

I use a BFAX, OBDII Bluetooth module. Along with the free and paid versions of the TorquePro app on my Android products. Scans and clears fault codes. Build custom displays. The paid app will trend what ever sensors you want, plus a few more things. The free app is very good and would recommend it. Best of all it is very easy to use.

Is the Engine load part of the Xtra Purchase of the Ford? I don't see that PID in the main ones they give

Engine Load, and Trans Temp are part of the extended Ford Pids. You can purchase your specific year for 9.99.
