De-winterize

I need to de winterize my Redhawk tomorrow. I see the hot water heater outside but I don't see a bypass valve? I know flushing and sanitizing is easy enough. But stuck on his water heater stuff.

Do you have a tanked or tank less water heater? Look inside behind the water heater, you may need a #2 square drive to access the area. On a 2015 model I expect you will have three valves. Open the two to the tank and close the bypass valve that short circuits the tank.

On my htt, I had to remove a screw above the water heater holding a dinnette bench seat lid down. I know others who have a cabinet door that is screwed shut. Just look around the backside of the water heater.

I have the Greyhawk and tankless but our old coach had the Atwood 6 gallon. I'm pretty sure the bypass valve (or valves) will be close to the heater and usually in the back -- where the inlets are.

I'd look in the coach, about where the rear of the heater would be for some access panel.

As for direction, on our old one, if the valves were closed, the heater was bypassed. Easy way to tell was to leave the drain plug out, flip a valve, add water and see if any thing runs out of the drain plug.

Hopefully someone with your 2014 Redhawk will chime in.

So I found this as well. Looks like the three valves Jagiven was talking about.

Change the position of all 3 valves, reinstall the outside drain plug, and ensure the tank is full of water before engaging propane or electric heat.

Thank you everyone. I was thinking it. But needed some reassurance.

just a thought, but if you winterized with anti freeze, then you probably want to run water through all the lines to clean it out before you flip the bypass valves. Hate to see your heater tank get pink stuff in it.

If the valve handles are turned crosswise to the pipe direction the valve is closed. If the valve handle in inline with the pipe direction the valve is open.

Good point about the pink stuff, I leave the water heater bypassed at first and flush the lines, then open the valves and flush the tank, most of the time with the drain plug opened on the outside of the tank. In your first picture the plug is removed.
