Dinette out, Recliners in

New RecPro recliners in my Melbourne 24K. I think I'm going to like them.

Doggie...what size recliners did you go with? Seems you have some extra room on the end on the pictures

These were the 58 inch recliners. I had enough space for the bigger, I think 69 inch set, but I liked the idea of the end table with the lamp. I think the only difference is that the bigger set has a console between the seats, but as I understand it, I can order that console separately later if I decide to

Thanks, I was guessing as much. Seriously considering the same change as the dinette is just not comfortable.
I've discovered, thru research, the seats were constructed too low and too narrow (compared to most other rigs) which puts the edge of the dinette seat in the middle of my leg and my knees higher than my hips (and I'm only 6' tall).
Difficult to decide to do it just in case we ever decide to sell the rig.
What did you come up with for a table / tray to eat at with the recliners?

Ha! My problem with the dinette was similar, except with me, the bigger my belly gets the more the table top shoved into my gut when I sat longways on the bench! As for tables, we just use the small table that came with the rig. At dinnertime we move to the driver and passenger seats (which rotate around to face the living room). The tabletop does get a little crowded, but we really don't eat in the RV very often while traveling.
There is room, by the way, for a pair of tv trays between the arm of the recliner and the end table, if you wanted to go that route.

Funny how that works...I have the same belly issue!

You mentioned the small table that came with the unit...I just looked up your rig and saw what you mean. The 2016 didn’t have that additional table, but I’m seriously going to try to get one.
Here’s a question...did you have “extra” seat cushions for your captains chairs that raise you up a few inches? I’ve seen them somewhere for the 2017 model but we didn’t get them (we bought used) and I think they’d make a huge difference if I could find some.

Yes, it's a nice little table. Table top is the same material as the counter-tops and looks good in the RV.
I did get the cushions with my RV and they do help a lot for comfort. The floor level in the coach is higher than in the cab, so with the chairs rotated toward the coach, the driver and passenger seats sit very low and they are hard for an old man like me to climb in and out of. As you can see from the picture, the cushions make you sit much higher and it's easier to get in and out of the chairs. (excuse the cheap seat covers from Amazon. We have a dog...)
A couple of other note; with the table installed the cushions make you set a little high and my knees bump the bottom of the table. I guess it's like most things with an rv, with every alteration there's a little give and take.
Also, you might notice the table is a somewhat off centered. I relocated the table connector so that it is now purposely off centered. The idea is that I can now rotate the table to the left or right as to allow more room while someone is trying to sit down. Just an experiment...

Mondoggie,

Nice 'up-grade' modification.

There has been some JOF members recently expressing interest in 'Dinette' removal options...., you may want to start a thread at the JOF "Jayco Mods" forum.

Before/after pics are great and any R&R tips.

Bob

Doggie: I just got my cushions...I “lost” this conversation and found another Melbourne owner that had the manufacturer and PN and was able to order them. Now I’m wondering if you have any PNs for the table, post and floor bracket? I really want to install that setup in our rig.

Thanks for your help.

Happy Camping

Hey Dnb, patent number for the pole, floor bracket and table bracket is:
patent number 6,820,847
I’m afraid I don’t have a number for the table. There was a sticker on the bottom that may have had a pn but when I offcentered the table brace the tag was destroyed.

Hi there,
I am David from Atlanta, GA and new in this forum. I have owned 2018 Melbourne 24K. Thanks for the good information. I also think about the renovates very discomfort dream dinner with dual recliners or 68" tri fold sofa.
The table mounting hardware calls for "Sequoia Table Leg System" and it has couple of different version. I found a best price from camping world, item no. 74002 $59.99 that included bottom bracket, middle pole and upper bracket. You have to buy a table top from local store. Good Luck.

Are the recliners comfortable? Does Camping World or anyone else have a display in the store. At 6'4" and some change I was concerned about ordering something I am not able to try first.
