Disconnecting TV Safety Switch

Have a 2018 Redhawk 26xd. Want to disconnect the safety switch so that we can run the tv while driving....any inputs or pics would be great!

Hello Wayfinder,

If you go to the top and search for "tv turning off with ignition on" there is a great feed that should help you.

Best of luck.

Just be aware this is added for a reason. The DOT Safety rule is the Vehicle operator is not suppose to be able to view the operating TV SET while driving. Now that using cell phones while driving has become such a big issue you know law enforcement is watching everyone a lot closer... Watching TV SET at night while driving is a dead give away. The whole inside of the truck cab area is lit up by it with changing light levels depending on the TV SET scenes being shown haha...

Just saying...

They do call it "SAFETY" for some odd reason.

I would be totally on-board with the safety concern of running a TV underway if there was any way the driver could physically see the TV from the driving position. At least in my rig I absolutely cannot see the TV unless I turn and lean WAY out of my chair and crane my neck, and the TV is angled JUST right (NOT angled for viewing from the coach).

Even then, I can't really see it, especially if I have the bed made in the cabover (which I always do). And my bigger concern would be yanking on the steering wheel that I would be using to support my epic lean to maybe see a little of the TV. I would actually get a better view of a device mounted in the rear of the passenger headrest, but those are perfectly acceptable.

Driving at night, the light COULD be an issue, but it's no worse than a map or reading light really. In fact, sometimes the screen on my nav is more of a distraction from that point of view.

The TV faces the rear of the coach from BEHIND the driving position, so the safety concern is total CYA IMO.

Keeping my 4YO son entertained on long trips is one of the key reasons we even purchased a motorhome, so I'm going to use those resources to their fullest.

X2 !! Could not have said it better myself. As long as the driver has no view of the tv while operating the vehicle, this should not be an issue.

X3 what Bob said. Not an issue. The best way to avoid the attention of a cop is not driving like a jack-wagon.

Cut away!!!!!

It is an easy mod. Open up the outlet and disconnect the purple wire (12V), and wire nut both leads. Put it back together. I would cut the wire with long enough leads so you can reconnect down the road if you so need to.

I get nervous, when I see the words "disconnect" and "safety" close together.

Yes, you probably could, but should you?

The law actually says that you cant operate a TV while travelling, if there is any way for the driver to see it. It may be that yours is arranged such that it's only visible to your passengers, but I'd hazard a guess you'll get pulled over by every passing trooper, who will want to verify that.

Red wire if i remember correctly.

No worries about saftey, my class C is like the majority, you cant see the tv while driving. Much safer having rug rats watching cartoons then screaming are we there yet and trying to get out of the booster seat to roam around during flight.

Hopefully the trooper has some common sense and revenue guidance to pull the guy passing me doing 90 while on the phone over vs speed limit sponge bob square pants playing on tv.Click image for larger version

I've passed PLENTY of troopers in multiple states running the TV in the rear. None of them even gave me a second glance (including in TX where some of them can get pretty aggressive).
